Someone asked who Sally is from Heart of Water, and I thought it might be helpful for me to write post about my experience working with her to create a moonstone ring.

I knew about Sally's work from PS. There's thread that was recently started about her designs here:

My understanding is that Sally designs the jewelry and can source stones, and the jewelry is hand forged by Pomme who is a master goldsmith.

I'll describe through several posts.

In January of 2016, I contacted Sally via Etsy asking if she could source a large moonstone for and make a ring. My original request was for a oval moonstone with approximate dimensions of 12 x 16 mm, no inclusions (or nearly free of inclusions), with a strong blue schiller. I was thinking of having a moonstone set in a simple white gold bezel, with the bezel set into a heavy metal ring with blackened engraving.

Sally mentioned that she had a large round moonstone with a strong blue schiller that had inclusions, but they were not overbearing. She sent me multiple pictures of the stone on black velvet, and in a hand shot. Here's one pic:

We talked about possible metals (i.e., white gold with or without rhodium plating), and prices based on the metal, my ring finger size, and a prong setting with small melee, and prong setting with larger melee, and a prong setting with a single sapphire on either side. I opted for option A based on the design I preferred, and it was the most affordable.

I asked if it was possible to do tab prongs, and what kind of designs could be used for the gallery, considering my inspiration ring pics, and the art deco-like feel I prefer. She confirmed that all was possible, and I put a deposit down.

Next, Sally refined the ring design through sketches, based on my input. Here's one sketch in which she suggested different gallery motifs:

Thank you Pregcurious. I really appreciate your posts.

Stunning stone :appl: :appl:

Thanks, ElizabethR and MuhammedAli.

To continue the journey, by the end of February, we had finalized the design. At the end of March, I received beautiful pictures of the finished ring. Here's one of the pics:

And here is a handshot of the gallery.

Your ring is beautiful! I love browsing her website. I'm sure I'll buy from her sometime. Thank you for the review of the whole process.

Aren't moonstones ethereal? Your ring is beautiful, enjoy it.

omg this ring is spectacular! Love the process pics--that was one of my favorite parts about working with Sally. She's the best, and I'm so glad you used her for this project. The moonstone looks great in that setting.

It looks beautiful! I definitely think moonstones are underrated. I wear a moonstone ring regularly and I love seeing that blue flash when the light hits it just right.

Beautiful ring, preg! It turned out beautifully. Wear it in good health. :)

Thanks, chatoyancy, lovedogs, and Sparklieslover.

Thanks, TL. It's good to see you on PS!

Meladori, I'm going to see if I can find your ring on PS :wink2:

Here's another picture of the gallery:

I love this ring. The moonstone is gorgeous and I love how the design of the setting is substantial yet still feminine and light.

This is a stunning piece! Congratulations Preg!

Wow, your ring is gorgeous! I love the design and how glowy the moonstone is. Beautiful and ethereal. A magical ring.

Thanks, Mochiko, ilovegemstones, and Missy.

So lovely I think the design is great and the moonstone is dreamy.

I love it!!! I love the design elements in either side of the stone and in the gallery. Would you be willing to share what Sally charged for the setting/labor? I have a 12x10mm moonstone if like to set and an thinking of getting a Sally ring.

Thank you for your review and what a beautiful ring you now have! :appl:

That is lovely!!
