if you are using anything other than dialup you should have a hardware firewall.
A linksys router is what I usually recommend.
Software firewalls are a joke.

Of the software firewalls windows built in one is as good as any of them...

that was what I was hoping to hear - yeah, the software ones kinda sound like more trouble
