I've reworked my Tahitian bracelet from Hisano (Pearl Paradise) - I removed the greens and teals and replaced them with purples, blues, and greys, for an overall "cooler" feel...

And I bought a new set of "warm" Tahitians from Andrew Moline for an "earthy" bracelet, and I bought a few extra pearls for it, and a few extras for the extras...

So now I've got a handful of random, perfectly lovely pearls that I have no plans for. Any interest?

Peacock Tahitian round trio, 10-11mm
LT: https://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones/peacock-tahitian-round-trio-10-11mm

PP #1: From Pearl Paradise, specialty loose pearl. I'd bought it as an extra - full drilled, never strung, never worn.
Diameter: 10.51mm (perpendicular to drill holes)

PP #2: From Pearl Paradise, specialty loose pearl. This pearl was in my bracelet. Full drilled. No visible wear.
Diameter: 10.15mm (perpendicular to drill holes)

AM: From Andrew Moline, one of my "warm" bracelet extras. Full drilled, never strung, never worn.
Diameter: 10.42mm (perpendicular to drill holes)

These three pearls share body colour (a lovely rich green) and medium/dark body tone. The overtone is very similar - PP #1 shows more maroon in the lightbox, but this differentiation isn't visible outside that close-up lightbox ideal lighting. They're very close in luster - certainly close enough for me to happily call them "a set" ::)

In this luster comparison photo, both pearls are from Andrew Moline. The pearl on the right is AM in this trio. The pearl on the left is not for sale - this is one of the most lustrous pearls I've ever seen, a half step less reflective than a steel ball bearing. I've been using this pearl as a luster baseline for all my Tahitians.

The two pearls from Pearl Paradise each have some surface blemishing - it's visible on close inspection, but it doesn't stand out at all from any viewing distance. I always hesitate on blemishing - I tend to be much more critical than most people would consider reasonable... But I know I value more information than less when buying, so photos below. Please remember that this is way more detail than any vendor in the world is going to go into, even for loose pearls. Photos taken through a loupe are notated as such.

PP #1 has a weird skin wrinkle thing beside the drill hole - looks like a small patch of matte skin. Not visible face-up when strung. This pearl also shows what I'm going to call "growth bands" - slight banding in the nacre that catches the light. It's visible face-up in single-point light sources (not in diffuse light), if you're looking for it, but it doesn't draw attention or detract from the pearl itself at all.

PP #2 also has a couple of these "growth bands", and has two shallow divots about ten degrees on the arc from the drill hole - not visible face-up when strung.

The AM pearl is clean.

My hand is inside the lightbox in this pic, and already, just holding the camera a few inches further away, the difference in overtone between the Trio pearls has been mitigated. Outside the lightbox they read as a matched set.

Ugh I wish deep greens like this didn't look like a train wreck on my pale pink skin, or I'd snap these up in a heartbeat!

Your sales posts are always so detailed, @yssie ! Beautiful clear photos to go with. Don't mean to derail but are you able to share where you got that blue from? It's stunning :]

Are you selling the others (other ones on your hand?), too??

I’m so tempted to make a similar necklace to the one you helped whitewave with!

Baby blue Tahitian round, 10-11mm
LT: https://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones/baby-blue-tahitian-10-11mm

I nabbed this one from a lot of twenty that Pearl Paradise sent me late last year - it's from their special colour Tahitians in the 10-11mm size. Couldn't resist the colour. But... I have no plan for it, so here we are. Again..

Diameter: 10.52mm (perpendicular to drill holes)
This pearl is undrilled

This pearl is all about the colour. In the lightbox she's violet on the outside and teal in the inside, with the faintest hint of pink... In real-world lighting she's a solid and saturated shallow sea baby blue - no overtone of note. I would call body on the lighter side of medium.

Luster on this one is a 7/10 compared to the baseline pearl I used in my last post.

This pearl has five surface blemishes. Photographed through a loupe here - they're visible without a loupe, but again, only if you're inspecting the pearl up-close, and they aren't noticeable at all when worn. This pearl isn't drilled - for a pendant or a ring, drilling between the trio of pinpricks would eliminate face-up visibility of those blemishes. Skin on this one is super smooth.

A quick phone pic from a couple weeks ago for another colour comp - akoya baby super-blues (the strand of tinies), Madama akoyas (the middle-sized pair of blue-greys), a pair of white akoyas, and this blue Tahitian singleton at the back of the loose group. Photo taken beside a window around noon.

Pistachio/Purple Tahitian round, 11-12mm
LT: https://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones/pistachio-slash-purple-tahitian-round-11-12mm

This was one of the warm-toned pearls that I removed from my magical Tahitian bracelet from Hisano - this was actually the centerpiece pearl.
Diameter: 11.94mm (perpendicular to drill holes)
Drill hole diameter: 0.8mm

This pearl is a bit of a colour changeling - she's mostly pistachio with a purple outer halo in most types of lights. On one side (the side photographed) she's got a reddish eye - on the other side she's just wholly green on the inside. In multiple spotlights (think multiple overhead spotlights - like recessed kitchen lighting) the pistacho errs teal and the purple turns really dark, almost black. I'd call this one a "dark" body tone.

This pearl is blemish-free. However, up close, the skin isn't super smooth - I've included a photo of the "light hammering" or "mottling" (I don't know what else to call it!). From any viewing distance the skin looks smooth.

Luster is unremarkable. Compared to ball bearing pearls, anyway. This was still a special-lot loose pearl, and compared to most general stock Tahitians, and most commercially-available Tahitians - it's still a mirror. I'll withhold further commentary on my general (heh) opinion of "general stock" and "commercially-available".

Pink/Grey Tahitian round, 11-12mm
LT: https://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones/pink-slash-grey-tahitian-round-11-12mm

This was another pearl that I removed from my magical Tahitian bracelet from Hisano. This pearl had exactly the colour I wanted, but the sizing just didn't work with the other pearls that I had available, so she got benched...
Diameter: 11.70mm (perpendicular to drill holes)
Drill hole diameter: 0.8mm

This is a lighter-bodied grey with pink overtone. In-person, when worn, she picks up skin colours like a chameleon - she looks light grey with blue-pink overtone on my (Caucasian) husband, but on me (I'm Indian) she's a darker grey with a peachy eye. Overtone isn't very "sticky" - she goes grey-erring-skin-coloured under multiple spotlights or in bright lights. Beside a window or outside on a rainy day she's a wintery cool.

Pearl is unblemished and skin is smooth. First photos taken inside a lightbox:

Trio is held.

Wow, I've never seen those Akoya super blues before! Do you have a thread on them? I know they aren't for sale, but I'd love to learn about them. That color is amazing!

They’re really bright IRL! I actually bought a bunch of baby multicolour akoya necklaces from Cees, and separated them into colours - there were enough blue pearls for a blue strand (not particularly well matched, but hey, they’re blue ::)), and enough yellows for a yellow strand, but I’ve got a pile of leftover white/green/peach to find some use for now!

That baby blue round Tahitian is a match made in heaven with your skin tone

Are you sure you can't think of a project for her ?

Those are absolutely beautiful! This thread shows me why I can't get into pearls. I'd be as picky as you are, but it might take me years to learn what you know. Ha, just kidding, because I could never know what you know! It's good we're friends...I'll just get you to choose pearls for me if I ever am inclined to get some!

@yssie I’ve sent you a message via LT :)

Grey/Pink is held.

What kind of pearl is the magical lustrous one (not for sale)? It looks so beautiful.
Actually all these pearls look beautiful!

That's one of the Tahitians I got from Andrew last year! Hopefully I'll have the finished Moline bracelet and the reworked lineup from Pearl Paradise within a few weeks :appl:Righty in these pics is an extra for that bracelet, though.

Since I’m new to pearls, and I know @yssie has “good stuff” , I bought those pearls not knowing how I was going to like them.

Let me tell you— that necklace and the earrings I bought from the sea of Cortez Mexican store are a giant bright spot in 2020.

They are gorgeous, and while I would like to get more in colors (mine are metallic/grey/silver etc), they go amazing with so many color tops, especially black and surprisingly neutrals.

I highly recommend making a necklace like I did. Plus, it’s more casual and I don’t have the pearls touching the back of my neck, which I’m fairly sure would drive me crazy.

Update on availability:

The trio, the blue, and the grey/pink are spoken for :))

The pistachio/purple is still available! ::)

These pictures literally make my heart skip a beat. I don't wear pearls, but I want to buy some just to have them to play with, to hold them in my hand and stare at. Once I get through this current project I think I may buy some just to have. They are UNBELIEVABLE...

Tahitian studs, round blues (10-11mm)
LT: https://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones/tahitian-studs-round-blues-10-11mm

I bought these special-colour blue tahitians (loose pearls that were matched) late last year from Pearl Paradise. They're in like-new condition - I've worn them only three times. I've learnt that whilst I like blue tahitians, I love green tahitians, so when I want tahitian studs my older dark peacocks always win.

The colour on these is a rich, medium/light "ocean blue" - it's an almost perfect match with the singleton I listed earlier (the singleton has a touch of of violet overtone, these don't). Both pearls are clean, and both have very smooth skins - nothing for me to highlight or comment on! I've added details on colour in my photos ::)

The pearls are 10.04mm and 10.05mm - an exact size match. The posts are 18k YG, standard weight/diameter/length, double-notched. I will include the original 18k YG earring backs from Pearl Paradise.

All pearls in this thread are spoken for. I'll leave this thread open until sales are finalized.

I just wanted to share that I received my Tahitian from @yssie today... I was fortunate to secure the baby blue pearl and it’s an absolute dream! I have never owned one as beautiful, lustrous and mirror-like pearl with such a striking color. If this was a 6/10 to her eyes, I must have her help choosing all of my pearls in the future!

This transaction was a pleasure from start to finish - thanks so much, Yssie!

It makes me SO happy when pieces I love go to new homes where they’re loved even more

Thank you @stonewell!! ::)
