Mosaic diamonds. Why?

In natural diamond jewelry under 5,000, I’m seeing mosaics everywhere. If the price of diamonds has fallen, why can’t they afford to put a small full diamond there? I have a mosaic bracelet, and I understand they couldn’t put large stones in there for that price, but why is that all I’m seeing? I’m fine with dainty jewelry. Why can’t I find full stones? 39320F3B-EC3E-4153-8250-B371EB6CAEFB.png

Not really answering your question but I love your bracelet and love well-done mosiac/cluster rings. They can show great skill. Where do you see nice ones?
Thank you so very much! I found this in a local jewelry store. It’s one of the few I have found that we’re done well. I wish I could give you more info, but it was a fluke. I guess it was meant to be. Perhaps try Etsy. I know it was made in Italy but that’s about all. The price was very right so I grabbed it.

I've heard their workmanship is superior. I have some costme jewelry from Brosway Italia that is so well made it's amazing.

I think you answered your own question. There is just so much more cushion for profit when using inexpensive components or raw materials. Yes, it may still be affordable to use single diamonds to make that bracelet but a similar 10X mark-up would put it out of reach.

Isn’t this a new thing? I don’t remember seeing these much 15 years ago.

^ Maybe it's the new ease of low-cost mass-production instead of having to hand-cut all the gems and custom make the mosaic "frame."

It’s a shame because round diamonds don’t belong on a mosaic emerald cut. It’s an eye sore. They can do so much better.

I like a good mosaic if it’s done well, but imo the only shape it really suits is an emerald cut, like your bracelet. I haven’t personally seen good examples of other shapes. With rounds I think the only way to do a good cluster would be a really finely set halo around a single centre (and that too would likely only pass in a necklace or earrings, not bracelet).

In india you can get single stone jewelry in the <5000 price point, like a tennis bracelet, but it would be dainty. We have much lower labour and overheads though which makes it feasible.
