What are the 2 most important policy issues you feel the next U.S. president will face, and who do you support to face those issues (assuming the person you choose overall is the same person you choose to deal with these problems)?

Going first:

1. Domestic economic policy.
2. Healthcare.

Supporting - Hillary Clinton.
On a side note: I really wanted to vote for Obama. And then he started campaigning

Well, that''s a difficult question to answer! So many issues to fix, aren''t there?

I have two different ways of looking at this..One is on the actual candidate/voting side, my two main concerns are the environment and a woman''s right to choose.

But, once in office, my main concerns are the environment and re-building our international credibility, which has been all but stamped out at this point (once elected, I would trust that my presidential choice would then protect a woman''s right to choose). I think re-gaining the trust of the world and it''s global leaders is of great concern, and of course if the USA and China continue to ignore global warming indicators, scientific evidence, and continue refusing to engage is meaningful reform, then we''ll end up passing on a world not worth living in for future generations. And that? Is a real travesty that future generations probably can never recover from.

1. foreign policy, includes: get out of iraq, don''t go to war with iran, and more.
2-domestic policy, includes: health care, right to chose, and more.

voting for kucinich.

surfgirl, I completely agree with you! and doubly agree that there are so many things to fix, but I doubt any one candidate thinks exactly the way any of us do about policy issues. And so, I kind of wanted to see where people are not willing to accept compromises. Anyway, this is the second time this week I''ve wanted to pound my first on my desk and say "darn right, surfgirl!" Just wanted to chime in and tell you that I love the way you articulate your ideas

pug butt for president?

remove gun control laws including the 86 mg ban
withdraw from the UN and kick them out
seal the borders off and send the illegals packing
draw down and withdraw from Iraq, willing to nuke Iran back too the stone age as needed.
end all foreign aid
No government controlled health care yet make it more available and end pre-existing conditions exceptions.
No north American union
Get the federal gov out of education
End the IRS
tort reform in the drug and medical fields. If the fda approves it then they should not be able too be sued except if they hid something or major wrong doing.

Ron Paul comes closest but he isnt there all the way.

I love pug butts. But I have a niggling feeling that a pug butt would not be taken seriously at a press conference. Too many people would want to just take pictures and go "AAAW!". There's also the issue of electability -- there are a LOT of cat-only people in this polarized nation.

Thank you! She's our little clown.

Is that little pug butt yours? I love pug butts. Pug butt for president indeed!

(Back on topic: I'm torn between Hillary and Obama.)

Not my pug butt -- although I seriously coveted it. My neighbor and I used to have doggy play dates, but her dog never played. That''s how the play sessions went -- he slept on the couch arm and my two dogs took up the rest of the sofa

End the IRS
I agree with most of what you said. This one is new to me. In a nutshell?

Replace it with a tax on imports and state funding the way it was spose too be.
At the very least make it fair everyone pays the same percentage with no social molding going on.
0 deductions for anyone, no earned income.
Then remove the tax courts and the illegal regulatory powers of the IRS.
All tax laws would have to be passed by congress not created by the bureaucrats at the IRS.
Litte known secret all the tax rules are not laws they are codes created by the IRS tried in their own courts if you break them.
If congress passes a tax law it isnt enforced by the IRS until they interpret it and make it code, they can and do twist it every way from sinday to fit their own agenda.
You can get 10 years in jail for breaking a rule that no elected person ever voted on.
That is wrong!!!

Two clips of Ron Paul, to give you some idea of his positions. (Haven''t even had a chance to watch them totally myself yet.)

How does a no-deductions policy work? In the same way I don''t think it''s fair to take away $1000 from a person who makes $3000 and $1,000,000 from someone who makes $3,000,000, I also don''t think it''s quite "fair" to tax two different people with the same income but one with kids and one without kids at the same percentage. If fairness is all about making sure everyone''s on an equal standing, it takes more money IMHO to put the person with kids on the same "level" as the person without kids, all else constant. But I''m just an economist, and words like "fair" never really enter into our vocabulary :-) . Could you expand a bit more on your position, strmrdr?

PS: I''m prone to foot-in-mouth disease. A lot of the time, people will think I''m attacking them when I''m not. I''m not attacking here... just want to learn more about what different people think :-)

No tax on lets say the first $40k adjusted for col each year.

Why should I subsidise someones kids? If anything they should pay more because they use more services.

True story on how evil the system is:
2 years ago my next door neighbor and his GF(2kids, both worked) made almost exactly 2x what I did.
When it was all said and done they paid 0 tax and got back almost exactly what I paid in because of earned income. They each claimed one kid.
They bought a big screen tv and a computer with the money.
So in effect the government stole from me too buy them a tv and a computer.. is that fair?
Our expenses other than food and clothes were exackly the same.
Same rent same gas same electric, they made 2x as much but I was forced to buy them a tv and a computer. Is that fair?

I think healthcare is an interesting one.

The income tax discussion is interesting; I do have my thoughts on the matter.

Hey Storm!

I''ve got four kids and you just helped my buy a Dell laptop.

Thanks!

On the plus side, my kids will be the backbone of our future society. Paying for the roads, bridges, and Storm''s social security check.

A flat tax on everything except food might be "fair" but it''s such a shift from where we are now I don''t know how we''d do it.
