This is an excellent movie about a middle-aged governess who keeps getting fired from her jobs and finagles her way into a job as a social secretary for an actress. It''s a "chick flick", definitely a feel-good film (and the jewelry is by Cartier). Frances McDormand is at her finest and deserves an Oscar nomination.

Thanks, Madam B. I''ve seen the trailer and thoight it looked very promising; now I''ll add it to my must-see list.

Seconded. I LOVED it!!

Ooooh, thanks for posting this! I saw the trailer and thought it looked like a fantastic movie, but really hadn''t heard any reviews one way or another.

...Is this one that I could possibly drag DH to for date night??

Hi, Elmorton! A fellow might want a little something in return

if he agrees to see this movie on a date night.

LOL! Thanks for the disclaimer :)

Could you all help me out? DH and I saw the movie this weekend, very cute! But, we were late (running late, then long line at popcorn stand--then got cokes with no carbonation and had to go back--and walked in when she was knocking on the door of her future employer as "social secretary" (ok, I can''t remember the character''s name).

Soooo--What did I miss? Why did she lose other jobs?

She lost the other jobs because she was very strong-minded independent thinker and rubbed her employers the wrong way.

Oh I''ve been wanting to see this!!!

I saw it this evening and loved it! It is a bit of a chick flick, but not too overwhelmingly so. I lo-o-o-oved the costuming and set design, and of course Francis McDormand.

Opening scene: We overhear her getting fired as a governess.

Second scene (I think): She''s at the Holt employment agency, where the owner tells her, in several different ways, that it''s her job to conform to her employers'' expectations, not vice versa, and finally tells her that she''s run out of chances to get it right. As the owner is distracted, Miss Pettigrew spots and pockets the calling card of a woman who has called for what she assumes ia a governess -- the young woman whose door you saw her knocking at.

Third and fourth scene... haphazard run-ins with two of the characters that will also show up later in the movie.

I think that''s it until she gets to the door!

Anyhow, thanks for the recommendation, Mrs. B!

We saw it two weeks ago. I told hubby it was a chick flick. He was game so off we went... WE loved it.

I have to see if this is still playing around here, I''ve been wanting to see it quite badly! Thanks for the reminder!

I also thought it was delightful - my mom and I saw it together, and it was perfect for that
