So...his boss emailed him and asked how he felt about the idea of taking a promotion. In St. Louis. We're in Chicago right now, and we love it here, but after some serious thinking, we're strangely okay with the idea of moving somewhere new together. Nothing's for sure right now, but this could get interesting!

(on a LIW note, when he told me about the opportunity, he mentioned that moving to St. Louis - which is a lower cost-of-living area than Chicago - would mean he'd be able to put some more money aside for "something sparkly"

Any of you ladies have advice for doing the "pack up and try out a new city" thing with minimal stress? Like I said, it's not a for-sure move, but I want to be prepared if we get a green light on this!

Hi misskitty, I have no experience to share on this, but just wanna wish you all the best!

I moved to a new city AND new country to be with my honey, and it''s all working out well so far. Go for it!! Life is too short to play it safe all the time.

We moved 1000 miles in July (from Southern California to Portland, OR) with no jobs and enough savings to last us about 4 months. Luckily, SO just got a job a couple of weeks ago and I''ve been interviewing at a few places. One thing I will say is that it is so lame how bad the economy is right now--I wish that it was a better time to be looking for work. If you can get a job before you go, it would be awesome, but it''s very difficult to interview from so far away.

Thanks, ladies! The plan is for him to move first (with minimal stuff), and then for me to follow a little bit later, with all of our stuff in a big truck. If I can snag a job first, excellent. If not, at least I can save up a little money to fill in while I''m searching. I''m super excited...looking at this as a new adventure. In the meantime, apartment-hunting is kinda fun (especially because I am having some serious reverse-sticker-shock at the cheap, cheap rents there!).

Good luck with the move, misskitty! The main thing to remember is that St. Louis will become home soon enough and that, in time, it will be just as comfortable as Chicago. Plus, you never have to leave Chicago behind, you just add St. Louis to everything you have already. This is what gets me through when I have to relocate.
