Hello I recently inherited some colored gemstones from my grandmother and I'm thinking of selling some. I have someone asking about a 6.35ct AGSL certified Mozambique ruby heat treated only. What is the asking price I should give and not be hurting myself let alone ripping anyone off. Thank you for any help I can get!

Hi! Do you have a photo of the stone and the report you can post? I happen to be looking for a Mozambique ruby.

Hi, thanks for the photo. It looks pink, and I am looking for a true red. But to be sure, could you please zoom in on the stone alone for a better photo? Thank you.

Thank you for posting, but I am looking for a true red. The pink is a lovely shade of pink though. I am sure some pricing experts will chime in soon. Me... I'm just a lowly consumer. =)2

Thank you again and good luck to you.

Thanks for sharing this one. Not to be a pain, but could you please photo it between your fingers? Thank you.

This size and clarity you need def. a better lab!

There is an enormous price step from a glass filled ruby to a heated one with flux residues or a heated one...

Mine is only 6.19 carats and my fingers are size 8 ladies (so not tiny petite fingers) yet mine faces up quite a bit bigger. Mine is 12 x 10.
And yes, that the sad chip at the right end I’m hoping can be dealt with.

@Bron357 Not to hijack this thread but nice ruby! Is that Burma or Mozambique? I would mount it and leave it. I don’t think the prongs will end up on the chip? I have a 6.05ct sapphire, 12x10 that I have whacked and chipped but I still love it the same! Little battle scars of life. Your red is a pretty red and the size is perfection! Dying to know... Burma or Mozambigue? Your stone is lovely!

Presumed Burmese and potentially unheated as well. It came from an estate where the jeweller who owned it died in the early 90s which I believe is before Mozambique rubies came onto the market. I’m not even sure as yet whether anyone in Australia can do an origin report. We’ll see.

It is defanitly not glass filled or I would be able to tell with my black light.

Was that gem heated or glass filled? I'm only asking because of the big chip on the end, it hard to damage a ruby that is a 9 on the mohls scale unles it is fractured or something from heating or glass filled.

These are very big stones. Hmmmm... Was Grandma secretly in the trade?

I would suggest you send them to AGL to get Prestige Origin reports which will also show any type of treatment aside from heat, if any, and then to an appraiser to properly price them.

I dont really know! I know she collected but that's about it! I only know what I learn from Google about them. I have looked up all different natural inclusions on gia website and inspected with a 60× loup magnifier. And I can find the natural inclusions such as silk and earthly minerals as well as crystal structures. I have even put them under black light to get a nice neon pink and red flourescence.

I have a total of about 15 to 20 rubies

Well, my thoughts... since you are not a “reputable dealer”, it may be tough to sell these stones without an AGL report showing origin and treatment. You will know much better what your stone is worth with an AGL report and then an appraisal.

I expect since they are big stones you may want a high price for them. However you will have skeptics who may like your stones but are concerned about what they are buying since you are not in the trade nor have a reputation. An AGL report will go a long way in my opinion.

That’s just me as a consumer if I were buying from “a guy off the street who has stones”. Others may not care as much though. Good luck.

Thank you for the info! I know a gia certified gemolagist with a lab who can certify and appraise he is a dealer in fine jewelry and ownes a store where I live. Thanks again

Great! He may help you sell them too is he is a dealer or buy them from you.

It sounds like you have a lot of gems from a family member who did not specialize in gems. You said the ruby is "heat treated only" but that was not verified by an independent lab such as AGL. I'd definitely send a few of these gems to AGL for verification/certification---synthetics have been around for a while too. Too bad there isn't more information/history as to how she got them.
