Hi folks—apologies for what must be my inept search skills.

I distinctly recall seeing an image comparing how even at the same size a super ideals/well cut stone will look appreciably bigger than their poorly cut stone because of their edge-to-edge brightness.

Does anyone have this image at their fingertips, or does anyone recall the thread/s that cite this, or simply have better search skills than I do?

Sorry to be a bother, but its such a powerful image for demonstrating why cut matters.

With my gratitude!
K.

It may help to show Table Flash versus Edge-to-Edge performance.

1. In lighting conditions where table flash is promoted a diamond with a larger table can appear larger than one of equal diameter. The main difference is at the diamond's center.

2. In lighting conditions where edge-to-edge performance is promoted a diamond with better angles/less light leakage can appear larger than one of equal diameter. The main difference is at the diamond's edges (and possibly under-table).

This, Maybe?

I believe this page has the images you’re looking for - and a ton of fantastic context for those pics as well ::)

Just for a point of interest. I have a couple sets of those stones here. In real life, assuming John is using the set I have, the one that looks smallest is actually larger in diameter than the smaller diamond that looks larger.

The difference that cutting makes is enormous.

Hi @ksluice, I have an entirely unrelated question for you, if you don't mind. I love your ornate Legacy engagement ring. May I ask your experience with the ring over time and perhaps for more photos? I'm considering one for an anniversary upgrade, but unfortunately cannot simply walk into Tiffany to try it on, since they no longer make the ornate version.

Hi @DorotheaBrooke. Certainly. I don’t think it would bother folks if I just answered here. Here are two pictures I managed to take through a loop. So this is after about 12 years of wear. I have never lost a single one of the very delicate pave stones, which amazes me, TBH.

I don’t wear the ring everyday, but pre-pandemic I did 3-4 times a week, and although I try not wear it when I might do things that would make me bang my hand into hard things. It inevitably happens as the millgrain can testify to. It‘s probably due for a trip back to the mothership at this point to have the prongs built back up where needed, and such. I think this might be needed in the halo but the profile stones, the ones where I felt certain I would lose a stone eventually because they’re so tiny, I don’t think I have any worries there.

Overall I have been nothing but impressed with the ring, and I do prefer it to the other versions of the legacy ring—both because of the details and proportions. No regrets at all choosing it for an engagement ring.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oh, my heart!

This is the most gorgeous ring! Definitely at the top of my list. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
