Much as I love the current ring setting which is a diamond halo with an air line/gap in platinum, and I had said the EC which has huge sentimental value is in its forever home, I decided to have it re-set in a more substantial settling in a similar Art Deco design that I have always liked, after I managed to bend the ring horrendously out of shape during one lively drinking session!
The shank was hollow at the top and not very thick throughout, and I got what I paid for at the time a few years ago, and I was very happy with it.
Although it was repaired, I have lost confident in the ring setting, in that I worry about bending it again as I know what I am like with my hands!
Instead of having a new and more substantial shank, I decided to bite the bullet and have a completely new setting made instead.
I am working with Simon Wright in London, who did an excellent job with re-setting my mum's 1.94ct MRB into a bangle.
Here are the design inspirations that I had kept on file for years:
Here are the first set of CADs that I have received, the shank is not quite right and it is being re-worked. The size of the carré cut stones are 2.1mm square and the MRBs are 2mm.
My own design specifications are:
- in platinum
- bezel set for the EC for definite, as well as the smaller diamonds if at all possible
- as low profile as possible
- air gap/line between the halo and EC
- no millgrain
- plain comfort shank with no side stones at least 4mm at the top tapered to 3mm at the bottom.
The shank in the CADs is 5mm at the top, and it looks too wide and the curved outer profile does not look quite right to me. Hence he is going to re-work the CAD.
However, I like the look of the air gap/line and halo.
I shall post the original and its current setting below as I can't access my gallery when posting a new thread.
