The good:
The clarity is amazing
GIA confirmed it's an original old cut and not a reproduction

The ugly:
The setting is the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but it's heavy and 14k solid gold, so can go to scrap for a decent amount and zero remorse.
The seller is a total nutter and included a long very religious passage that the GIA authentication service kept and forwarded to me. I'm a religious person, however I don't appreciate proselytization and doomsday literature with my purchases.

Back to the jewelry, I'm thinking of a moi et toi with a natural, wild pearl. The diamond is small, 6.1 mm by 4.5 mm but I knew that, based on the price. Any other ideas for something else?

I saw only part of the setting and thought “well, that’s not SO bad.” Then I saw it all. Um, yeah, I can totally understand why it’s gonna go to scrap with no remorse :lol-2:

Back to the diamond - pears are such pretty shapes, aren’t they? Yay for being an antique (which I suppose you wanted) and for the clarity!

What I am curious about: 1. how is the light performance and are you happy with it? 2. Have you found your natural pearl? Can we see pics if you have? :)

That has to be the most confusing setting I've ever seen! Did it used to have 4 more stones that were just... filled in with metal?

But the pear is :kiss2:!

@Joanne10 I love the sparkles and it's warm color, typical to the era. Nope, I found a pearl but it's too small. I don't know anything about pearl, which doesn't help.

That poor pear… if you put her up to your ear you can probably hear her say, thank you for rescuing me, now get me outta this thing! :lol-2:

Please post a million pics when she’s out, antique pears are so special, it looks like such a pretty one! ❤️

Perhaps light some burning white sage or something in the meantime

As a side note, I think we should start an “interesting” settings thread and you can start it off with this piece if art work … I’ve ran across a couple settings like this that just made me giggle … so glad she landed with you, the before and after pics are going to be awesome!!!! :lol-2:

That pear is beautiful. Love it's character. agree about the setting. I think a moi et toi with a pearl would look great. A cuff with the pear set vertical or horizontal and a pearl or other stone would lovely as well! (something like the attached)Screenshot 2024-10-25 5.12.42 PM.png

@lavenderdragonfly23 it looks 60s/70s so my only explanation is LSD.

Thank you for rescuing that pear from that horrible setting!

Pretty diamond! Kudos on the rescue, as @Mreader said above!

You know when they fill a pothole and do kind of a half-assed job and you know it's just gonna pop right out again? I'm kinda feeling that.

You could also pair it with a small OMC or colored stone and do something like this by-pass ring, with or without the stones on the shank. You could do engraving instead if you preferred.

I usually get sad when people take old diamonds from antique settings but dear god, you are a hero for liberating this diamond from whatever that setting is suppose to be. Kuddos for the find and can't wait to see what you do with it.
