Hi friends!

After weeks of educating myself on Diamonds. Asking this amazing community for help here on PriceScope, having to deal with multiple annoying jewelers that kept telling me that the cut are just "numbers". I've finally decided - to just decide - on one of these 2 stones this week. I'm tired lol.

The final battle of these 2 Diamond Beauties! Which one would you choose?

0,81-Carat Round Cut Diamond
Ideal Cut | F Color | SI1 Clarity | fluorescence: medium blue

EUR 3,245

VS

0,75-Carat Round Cut Diamond
Ideal Cut | I Color | VS2 Clarity | fluorescence: none

EUR 3,338

May I ask how you boiled it down to these two? The only thing similar with them is the size.

That's a good question because they are very different! These were actually shortlisted from stones I had suggested as well cut options to choose from based on maximizing size within budget and acceptable clarity. Colors are very different though and so would depend on color sensitivity.

OP had some jeweler who offered him poorly cut stones and he reached out to the PS community and avoided them. Full story here:

I’d get the first one even though I know many favor super ideals.

Eye clean SI1s are my favorite for good value! It’s also bigger and whiter

I’d be wary of an I color unless your intended is explicitly is not color sensitive

While a CBI diamond is a very special thing, the surface graining in this one is distracting to me. I would choose the first one.

im new to this, but where do you see the surface graining?

I see it in various places. Here’s one:

oh interesting, so essentially an inclusion thats not shown on the certification?

It’s on the outside surface of a diamond, so not an inclusion. It doesn’t go away, though.

I'm confused, I thought Wolfe/CBI had gone out of business? I even asked Wink if CBIs were still going to be sold and he said he didn't know.

I've seen it mentioned on certificates under 'comments' section of lab reports and under charity characteristics. However, it is odd that none of the three certs on this CBI mentions it. In case you what to know more about surface graining, here is an article explaining this (example in article is an IF diamond with surface graining):

Edit: adding a PS thread talking about surface graining. Seems like it could also be that lab did not see it though a 10x magnification but visible in video or it could even be a camera issue:

This CBI the OP is considering is being sold through Fortrez in Antwerp.

I've seen another CBI dealer overseas that doesn't show a list of the CBI inventories on their own website show the CBI diamond being offered though Wolf/CBI's links for the stone. I believe the CBI dealers worldwide share the same inventory, so using the Wolf/CBI link is a convenient way to allow the customer to see the diamond being offered and the lab certs for them online.

Thank you everybody for giving me your input & time! Especially @Diamond_Enthusiast! You all helped me with my decision so much I really appreciate this wonderful community! =)2

It seems like most of you favor the Blue Nile option. I’m just a little worried about the medium fluo on the F color of the diamond. I won’t be able to see it. Would you still think it would be worth the risk comparing it to the (I) color of CBI? I’ve asked BN about it which I’ve gotten this reply to:

“We have the ability to reach out to the vault where the diamond is for the visual inspection to confirm and I can confirm that this specific diamond has been advised to have no negative impact. The diamond would be beautiful.” “Yes, sometimes diamonds have already been inspected. I can confirm that this has been inspected and confirmed there is no negative effect. The fluorescence would not be visible in natural light.”

You might be interested to know that in the mid seventies, jewelers, and their clients, paid a premium for diamonds with strong enough fluorescence to be seen out of doors so long as they did not become milky or oily looking.

These magnificent diamonds were called blue whites when the diamond involved was colorless. The term was so abused that the term became illegal for those of us in the trade.

Fluorescence has become such a negative that it makes both the initial sale and any resale by the consumer to be very difficult.

I personally love fluorescence and find the market's treatment of fluorescence to be more than a little irrational.

Initially I was thinking about the CBI I color also because of considerations around convenience of any future maintenance because I thought you were based in near Antwerp. However, since you will be based in South America, that doesn't actually apply.

Purely looking at the diamond, I'm now preferring the BN F color too because it is slightly larger, higher color and now that BN has confirmed that for this specific stone there is no negative effect from the fluor, I would say go for it! I actually own a F color stone in a pendant myself with medium fluor and I personally love it! In fact, I put it under a UV torch sometimes just to enjoy the blue glow because I think it looks pretty cool :)

I had a strong fluorescence diamond and actually liked the bright white look it gave to my diamond. Didnt notice any sort of clouds or visibility in natural light either, only noticed it existed under blue light (at a party).
