Hi, gang. I'm very new to colored gemstones, but I find them really exciting and fun (and the semi-precious ones are soooo much cheaper than diamonds  ). The first colored gemstone I purchased was a tacori East-West oval amethyst ring in silver(very beautiful, and at an excellent price point of $290). And i just pulled the trigger on my 2nd colored gemstone selection-- a cabochon cushion cut chalcedony (it faces up kinda like a three and a half carat) in a petite 14k yellow gold setting with 14 tiny diamond sidestones. It was 50% off for mother's day, so even if the color saturation isn't up to snuff for most colored gemstone purists, I think it's a lovely piece for only $280( and the person I'm giving it to has a smallish 5.5 ring finger, so the petite band shouldn't be overpowered).

Here are some pics of my first AND second gemstone selections:

Great choices!!
Thanks for sharing

@matt_k Beautiful rings! Coloured stones should come with a warning! Once you disappear down this rabbit hole there's no getting out! It's quite addictive! ;)2

Nice choices! I especially like the second one.

Those are fun choices.

Colored stones are like candy. Lots of great websites and Instagram sellers to look at as well!

Your chalcedony is beautiful!

I like both of them a lot!

Lovely rings and at a great price point. I love chalcedony. For me, it has a romantic undertone, mostly because I used to love reading historical fiction when I was younger and chalcedony was often mentioned in medieval and post-medieval stories with romantic themes.

I agree that once you buy your first colored stone, you'll probably fall down that lovely and captivating rabbit hole. Welcome to the CS world, @matt_k. It's a fun place!

Thanks! I really like the ring in your profile pic. What kind of gemstone is it?

Thanks, Nat! I believe you're right.:razz::razz:

are you single? Looking? Lol

If so, someone is missing out on you!

We love having you here.

Yup! Technically single ( although I do have a "complicated" situation with a very unhappily married lass :???:o_O).

Thanks! I love this site. You folks are great, and so wonderfully knowledgeable about diamonds ( and all things bling-centric :kiss2: ).

Thanks! Could you suggest some of your favorite gemstone websites?

@Niffler75 is that a garnet or a ruby in your profile picture? Or Cherry topaz? It's very striking!

@whitewave and is the pale blue emerald cut stone in your profile pic an aquamarine? It's AMAZING.

@matt_k Thanks! :mrgreen2: It's an Oregon sunstone! You can't really see in the pic but when the stone is tilted to one side you can see the copper schiller!

Yes, and thank you! It is from Gary at Finewater Gems in Rosewell, Ga. I also bought my blue and my yellow sapphire from him.

The blue sapphire was made by Wink at HPD as it has two CBIs on it.

The aqua was made by Brian Gavin and those diamonds are from him.

The yellow sapphire was made by David Klass and has lab diamonds for the halo.

I need to take a new photo.

Let me see

I also have a 1.11 asscher cut Chivor emerald Inken sourced for me that I need to set.

@matt_k

I like to look at Finewater, Precision Cut, Master Cut Gems, Adamant, Pristine Gemstones, Artistic Colored Stones, Whites Gems, John Dyer, Yvonne Raley. And there are lots of dealers on IG too!

My sapphire is from Leena Gems on IG out of Sri Lanka. It's not perfect textbook wise, but I considered and ordered a few and it was my favorite.

I love your stones so much. Can't wait to see what you decide on the Emerald.

@matt_k that chalcedony is gorgeous. I love the color and yes a steal.

In of my favorite sellers is Brad from the Gem Trader. He doesn't cut I don't think but he gets super rare really unique items. Oh and MVM on IG she cuts some spectacular shapes and is affordable

ok, HERE is my 3rd gemstone purchase---- which was overpriced even though i bought it at a significant discount (complete with all the original packaging and having never been worn) on ebay:

a 1 carat sky blue topaz modified cushion cut cabochon in 18k yellow gold from paloma picasso's "sugar stacks" collection at tiffanys:

I love that style of ring with sugarloaf cabs. Above are some other PS’ers past projects based on the same as yours.

I always loved/lusted after them. Heavily.

I’m relieved that the sugarloaf rings I posted above cannot aid, abet, rationalize and justify my feelings. 2B78686B-6766-4780-8574-38EF2F3CE49C.gif

You did well, sugarloafs are really cool, both fashion wise and generally as cuts!!!
