We had my ring custom made, but I haven''t seen anything since the preliminary (incomplete) CADs. Last I heard, it was supposed to arrive today, but I''ve been trying to stay out of the loop now.

I wonder how long he''ll wait to propose!

I''d love to hear from you ladies how long it took your bfs to propose from the time they had your ring in hand. Did they wait to surprise you or did the ring burn a hole in their pockets?

Any tips for surviving the wait?

Here''s hoping it''s girl soon...

I had to wait a few weeks for mine! We chose the ring together and looked at diamonds, but he made the ultimate decision on which stone to put in the ring. Then he had to call my parents and schedule time to go over and talk to them, ring in hand, and ask for their permission. I tried to stay out of the loop on all of that too. It was shortly before Christmas, and he finally gave me the ring on Christmas Eve. The year was 1985!!!!!!!

I have no insight as to how long he''s going to hang on to that beauty but I just wanted to say that I hope the wait isn''t too long!!!!!! (and we can''t wait to see it

SO Exciting!!!! I hope its soon for you too!!!!

My post may not be exactly what you want to hear, but i''m really glad it worked out this way, so here goes!

My fiance and I (boyfriend at the time of course!) picked out my ring together in January -- we got a Royal Asscher stone with a custom setting, and i knew it would take at least 6 weeks to be made. But i also didn''t think he''d give it to me as soon as he got it, and i was right! In late February, (just enough time to get the ring!) we headed off to Europe and went to Paris London, Rome, and Brussels, and part of me thought i''d get it then. But as he explained to me later, it was too obvious, and he wanted to surprise me, so that wasn''t going to happen. Also, he told me that he wanted me to forget exactly what it looked like so i would see it for the first time all over again, etc. etc. So then we got back from Europe and went to a wedding in May, and I thought maybe it would happen before then. Nope!! Then we went to New York City (where i used to live) and where we went on our first trip together, so its very special to us for that reason! I thought surely then it would happen, while dining at the same spot from our first trip. NOPE!!!! THEN he planned a suprise trip for my birthday and wouldn''t tell me anything about it, other than it was my birthday gift. At the same time, any time the ring came up he said it would be sometime int he fall, i should put it out of my head. So i did. Also, right before we left for the trip i didn''t think he''d talked to my parents, and i knew he would do that before asking, so i thought no way. Also, i thought no way would he put it in a bag and take it to St. Thomas and take the chance, so i didn''t expect it. We had dinner the first night, no ring, hung out the second day, no ring, and then on July 1st at dinner (second night there) he asked me on the beach right before we sat down!! I couldn''t belive it!!! He HAD talked (visited) to my Mom and i just didn''t know it, and he DID put it in his carry on and it didn''t get stuck at the security! He said his back up was if they pulled it out and ruined it he would just drop on his knee and do it right there at security!

The point of all my rambling is that the BEST PART about it was that he had known immediately when he picked out that ring when he was going to do it, and why. He told me it was that night, 1 year ago that he asked me to be his girlfriend, and that night he asked me to be his wife. He had the ring engraved "Team A.D., July 2005" because he knew he was going to do it on July 1, in honor of that very special night in NYC 1 year ago that night!

I''m so glad he stuck to his guns and didn''t gave to my whining, because not a few days passed between me mentioning it and saying "NOW would be a huge surprise!!" It was 6 months from when we picked out the ring to when he proposed, but i wouldn''t change a thing!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

VERY exciting! I hope, for your sake, you get the ring sooner than later!!!

I hope its girl soon because I can''t wait to see hand pics!!!

My boyfriend...err, husband-in-two-months, waited 4 hours after fed ex delivered the package.

I used to think he was a patient person, but I''m just happy he didn''t wait any longer!

Good luck!

Diamondlil, happy 20th anniversary of your engagement!

The wait was definitely worthwhile--both for your original e-ring & your stunning upgrade!
9.gif

Fountainfairfax, Blue & appletini, I hope the wait is not too long either! (though a surpirse could be cool too!) I can't wait to see it either!
4.gif

royalasschergirl, I've been following your story very closely b/c I couldn't wait to see your big honkin' RA! It's so yummy! Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like the wait (including several near-proposal perfect moments) was definitely worthwhile. That's so sweet that your bf...er FI!...asked you to marry him a year to the date after he asked you to be his gf. How wonderfully romantic!
30.gif

lilyinct, that's so cute that your bf had to give it to you immediately! Your ring is just stunning, btw! (it's funny, the reflection in your avatar makes it look like a split shank--I had to track down your thread to see it in its correctly-sized glory! Wow!)

I just got my new yellow sapphire from Michael E. today (it's a big jewelry day for me, I guess), so it will keep me distracted until I have my (diamond) ring. Hopefully...

My fiance caught me staring at my bare ring finger a few times during the two weeks I waited for my ring to be resized. He thought it was hilarious because I''m not big on jewelry so it was a whole new side of me he was discovering. This made him decide not to make me wait any longer for the ring once he had it. So on Saturday evening, six hours after he picked it up, he proposed to me in our bedroom lit by candles. I still cried even though it was not a surprise. We spent the remainder of the evening looking at the ring sparkle in all different lights and in pure awe about what we had just done.

I never thought a ring could make me so incredibly happy but here I am, walking on air because I''m engaged to the man of my dreams, and I have the most beautiful ring to show for it!
9.gif

Brightspot,
You know I am almost as excited as you are. The ring is going to be amazing. I bet ya it''s going to happen this weekend. Take care of those hands and no hard labor!!!!
36.gif

Oh BRightspot!! How exciting for you!! I cannot imagine how hard this wait is going to be,.... But once you have the ring, you are going to be soooo happy (and selfishly... so will I cause I will be able to drool over that yummy ring)

OH Brightspot, Keep us updated and we will all be anxious with you!!!
32.gif
28.gif

Oh brightspot you must be boucing off the walls....I know I would be. Do ya''ll have any big plans coming up? I think a manciure and perhaps a facial is in order. You want to look extra spiffy for those post-engagemnt photos!

ohhhhhhh how exciting! i am sooooo glad that i won''t know when my bf actually gets my ring (though i definitely don''t think i''ll be waiting long)! but still, i would not be able to think of anything else hehe. i hope you''re wearing it soon!

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes!

Regalada, that''s so sweet that your bf couldn''t wait any longer to give you your ring! (also very cute that your e-ring may have converted you to a jewelry girl!) That sounds like such a sweet, romantic proposal. I love that you still cried even though it wasn''t a surprise.

Kaleigh, You''re egging me on in my excitement! Thanks for all of your support throughout this process!

Matatora, Yeah, I''m definitely bouncing today!
32.gif
9.gif
I didn''t get a professional manicure b/c I feared that would jinx the proposal, but I did my nails myself just in case.

Icekid, you''re lucky you won''t know when your bf gets the ring. It''s an odd feeling... I really hope you receive your ring soon--I can''t wait to drool over it. It''s going to be so stunning!
30.gif
Do you know approximately when it will be finished?

Mine, well, I think I''d be paying you back a bit if *I* give *you* something to drool over as I''ve been drooling over your ring (now rings) for months! In fact, I just showed it to my bf the other night & he thought it was gorgeous. When I mentioned the possibility of getting a R.H. concave cut spess someday (hey, I can dream...), he asked me exactly how many rings would be enough. I only have so many fingers... Sigh. I guess he doesn''t quite understand the jewelery obsession of the PS ladies. Yet...
27.gif

Ok, I have to tell you guys about my evening last night!

So, my bf & I met for dinner before our salsa dance class. I had been good & hadn''t mentioned the ring yet. (well, mostly good--I hinted around a bit, but didn''t specifically ask him if he received it.) So, out of the blue, he says Rose (the wonderful woman we''ve been working w/ at Quest, the company that''s custom making my ring) said it was great working w/ me. (when we started the project, my bf warned Rose that I might be a bit, um, detail oriented with regards to the project!)
2.gif
So, of course, I wait to hear further details about the ring. He said that Rose said there was a bit of a delay & she will have the ring to my bf by early next week.
7.gif
I asked him what the delay was & he didn''t tell me specifically. (red flag?) He said he saw pictures of it, though. When I asked how they looked, he wouldn''t tell me b/c I''d told him I wanted it to be a surprise. So, naturally, I was disappointed as I''d hoped to see it soon! Then he starts joking with me about September being a great month to get engaged. (He''d joked about this a bit before...a little background info--my bf & I started seriously talking about engagement & looking at rings in Dec., it just took me this long to figure out the route I wanted to take. So he''s been waiting to propose for a long time.) But he did say that I had asked him to take the reins again now & surprise me (which I did!)--he said, "be careful what you wish for." Hmm...

So, naturally I was disappointed. And he caught me looking down at my naked finger several times & smiled--just like you, regalada! As the evening wore on, though, he really just seemed to be in quite a chipper mood. He was grinning at me a lot, which seemed slightly suspicious.

Later that night, as we were getting ready for bed, he was trying not to let me out of his sight for too long. I think he might''ve sensed I was thinking of snooping (who, me?
17.gif
) b/c he said that he''d never tell me where the ring was--I''d never figure it out. I said that I thought the ring was in Virginia (with Quest). (we live in NYC) He said it *could* be in VA, for all I know...

He also just called me at work b/c he was bored & asked if I was looking forward to our weekend of doing nothing. In all fairness, we have been out of town for the last 3 weekends in a row, so it''ll be nice to have some down time, but I suspect he was taunting me...

So, I don''t know! I have the feeling he actually does have the ring & is trying to throw me off the track, but I don''t want to set myself up for a big disappointment if he doesn''t propose this weekend. I have to say, though, that the anticipation is pretty fun.

What do you guys think?

Thank you, BrightSpot. Here is a picture of my original e-ring and our wedding rings. It seems like such a long time ago.

Thanks for the update, BS. He may be sending you subtle hints, or maybe you are just overanalyzing everything he says.

Go have a manicure (just in case) and try to relax (yea right). A little surprise will make the moment that much sweeter.

Gee, it sounds good to me! Guys never seem to pull off being sneaky as well as girls do...

But, no matter what happens THIS weekend, at least you have some down time to spend together.

LOL--it''s likely a combination of both.

Thanks for posting the wedding photo--you have absolutely beautiful hands (and original rings!)

You''re right, Rube...the downtime to spend together will be really nice. And the suspense is kinda fun too.

It''s a nice, fun, flirty, playful game.

He also made an amazing dinner for me on Wed. night. Yum!

Thanks so much for the compliments. Twenty years and two kids later, they have definitely lost that smooth porcelain look.

Brightspot-

Thanks for the sweet comments...

I, too think that your boyfriend is just trying to build up the suspense....the evening after my boyfriend went into the city, he "confessed" that he went to look at rings, but that he was now so confused, he has so much research to do, blah, blah.....

I believed him (I''m way too naive). Come to find out, he actually bought the rock that afternoon, but they had to order the correct ring and fed ex it in.

Carry your camera around with you!

Good luck!

Brightspot, make sure you keep that camera charged up at all times. We want NO DELAYS in your picture sharing!

Oh for heavens sakes, He has the ring and is trying his best to throw you off. Oh and not to be like your mom, but what's this business of "as WE were getting ready for bed" Oh my!!!! JK

diamondlil, your picture is just beautiful and I've seen your hands and they are just as nice now as they were then!!!!

I can only HOPE my hands look that gorgeous after 20 years of marriage... when did you tie the knot? Were you 3?
emwink.gif
I sooo think he is throwing you off the trail and having a bit of fun making you squirm... can''t wait to see that gorgeous rock and hear the story!!! Blessings to you both!

BS: He so has the ring is going to pop the question this weekend. I know one girl and her now fiance would always act like he was going to propose and then not. So after awhile, she just thought that he was joking, but on a recent vegas trip he actually did it. Hopefully your BF won''t torture you like this.

Diamondlil: Your hands looks like they should be in a manicure add. You have such beautiful long nails!

Oh no, I hope my bf doesn''t do that to me!

Now you girls are getting me all excited!
9.gif
He did tease me a little bit this morning (on the phone of course, Kaleigh...
12.gif
) about how *I* made *him* wait for 7 months to propose...so he was wondering how much longer *he* will make *me* wait.
3.gif
Hopefully not much longer...

I truly think he is trying to build up anticipation & throw me off course & I love him for it!
30.gif
Though I just want to make sure I''m not disappointed if he doesn''t propose soon! Aagh!

Diamondlil--how were your hands so smooth in that pictures? I''ve seen a lot of close-up pics of hands lately (I wonder where...) & I''ve seen very few as flawless as your beautiful hands!

Try not to be wound too tight this weekend, BrightSpot. I know it'' going to be hard.

I''m so flattered by all the hand comments. Did they airbrush pictures in the 80s?

brightspot - right before my b/f proposed he told me that he had called the jewelers and that the ring was not ready yet.. I think it may have been that very day, or the day before.. And I believed him, because my ring had been delayed a lot already!

It was the only way he was going to suprise me, because if I knew he had it, I''d always be expecting it! He really managed to suprise me though!

Don''t get toooo excited though, because like I said there really WERE a lot of delays with my ring as well (I was expecting him to pick it up mid-august of last year.. it didn''t get finished until LATE OCTOBER!)

Wow, MelissaSue, that''s quite a delay w/ your ring! I''ve already had one delay w/ mine--initially it was to be ready before last weekend, but it was delayed until this Thurs. (and now possibly delayed again...) I believed my bf initially about the delay, but his credibility seems to be flagging.
2.gif
That''s really cute that your bf threw you off like that. By the way, I absolutely adore your wedding dress/veil! When is/was your wedding?

Diamondlil, I''m trying not to get too excited about it, though. (it''s difficult not to!) I want to leave some room for him to surprise me & don''t want to be disappointed if it doesn''t happen. I love your new tag line, btw!
