Warning! Overly wordy explanation...please feel free to skip to the money shots below!

My brother is an amazing human being. That's all I can say unless we have A LOT OF TIME. ok i'll try to cliff note it: At this most recent weekend long 50th bday celebration for him at the beach he was coined Governor of Love. He loves babies and treehouses yet parties like a rock star and went to about 15 proms (I swear...probably where off like a prom dress came from lol) and now sells champagne all over the world. When I had my twins he came up to DC and managed somehow to get me (normally wound tight as a drum, imagine me w infant twins...not pretty) and my husband (wee bit of a homebody and happiest watching animated movies with our kids) and close friends up to a trendy hotel rooftop pool and bar where we were welcomed happily by staff who set up a private little nursing area for me and treated us to a day of R&R that looking back we may not have survived without. It was a leap of faith that we knew we could take with him as the social director :)

Flash forward a bit and he's turning 50. My mom had a local jeweler make this ring for him after deciding to dismantle an emerald necklace she has but doesn't wear (ugh she really agonized I think but kept it private and came to the decision on her own...if I can figure out how to link it I had a topic on here a while back about that very subject). I think other pieces are in the works but her local jeweler put this together in about a week!

I wish I had stats but good god it's been a whirlwind of champagne and duck fat and well the details escape me but I just wanted to post these pics because I love that ring THIS MUCH and it's right up his alley (to shed some light on his tastes: his favorite gift EVER is a Faberge egg and little carriage his wife gave him). All I heard and can remember is it's a 4.5ct center stone.

Enjoy! And if his daughter will send me her pics I'll show you guys the side view which is cool because it is kind of cathedral (idk if that's the right word).

He loves it :)

That is a great ring, and the emerald in it is amazing! Such a sweet story too! I hope he enjoys it--I love when men are confident enough to wear bold bling. :D I keep asking my hubby when he wants me to get him some manly rings, but he has no interest in them and is still perpetually confused by my obsession with jewelry :wall:

The emerald is beautiful and your brother sounds like a real sweetheart! He will treasure this ring forever I'm sure!

What a beautiful ring, something he can treasure for sure!!!!

Your brother sounds amazing! This is such a wonderful and personal gift! It's a beautiful ring! :appl:

That is a spectacular ring and it looks awesome on him!   And your brother sounds like a really great guy and a lot of fun, I wish I had a brother like that!

It's stunning and he wears it very well! I have two sons and this gives me lots of ideas for the future... I probably need to buy some big rocks now before prices go up. I mean they'll be 50 in a mere 47 years! :)

Seriously - it's a very special piece. I'm sure he loves it!

I thank all of you for the nice thoughts! He for sure loves it. Ever since I can remember he has sent my mom flowers on his birthday with some kind of 'thanks for bringing me in' sentiment :)

It was too tight for his right hand so he put his wedding ring on his left for the evening, but yes he definitely doesn't mind the bling as his wedding band is articulated (maybe not the right word?) And has diamonds too :)

Re: husbands who don't want bling...I took the choice out of my husband's hands and bought him a band with good size princess diamonds line set super flat in a thick ring. He's a builder and never takes it off and has never had a problem even though he's sooooo rough.

Again, thanks for the love...I knew you guys would appreciate it!

It sounds like you have a very special brother! The ring is a special and lovely gift!

WOW- that is spectacular!

Great gift and well deserved... am sure that he will wear it with pride

What a cool ring!! The shade of green is beautiful. Your brother sounds like a very special person, I hope he enjoys wearing it. :))

How wonderful that your mother would think of passing jewels on to her son! And I love that picture of your (very handsome, BTW) brother beaming over his new bling!

Beautiful ring with family heirloom history! Thank you for sharing. That emerald looks so amazingly glowy and saturated just like an emerald should.

I was just asking my husband the other day if I can create a ring with a gray spinel for him and he told me no b/c he is just not into bling like I am. He is very hard on his metal rings too. Maybe I should just take the initiative and do it for him just like you did for your husband.
