This is the ring when it was just made and when I proposed.
And this is the ring now. Apparently, our photography skills haven't really improved.
A great thanks to the people at Whiteflash, especially Becca and Leon, for such a fantastic and memorable experience.
I guess, like most of the guys out there, I walked into this knowing nothing about diamonds and jewelry. Becca and Leon literally held my hand and walk me through the process and made it as streamlined as possible. I was really ambitious going into this wishing for a custom design without knowing how complex and risky the process can be. Not only so, I only had about two months from when I started speaking with Becca until the engagement date that I planned.
A quick breakdown:
If you are curious about the design: My wife wanted a ring that she could wear every day without much worry, and she can be clumsy at times, so I opted for a bezel design so that the diamond could be well-protected and could be set as low as possible. The melee diamonds represent our time together: we met each other back in high school and spent 5 years as close friends before we started dating for the next 5 years, I proposed in the 11th year since we first met. The curved shoulder going into the center stone means everything we have been through in those years had brought us to such an important point in our lives. Finally, the head hugging the center stone tightly represents my appreciation for what we had achieved to that point and me cherishing our future together. I had no experience whatsoever, so I actually took a huge risk without knowing as I went the custom route. Luckily, I'm happy with the result and my wife loves it. Again, thanks to Leon for fleshing out many of the details.
Almost 4 years have passed since. We got married officially later that year, but still haven't had our reception due to the pandemic. Still, we were lucky enough to share our happy married life with the little furball that you can see in the pictures. Coincidentally, he was born exactly on the day that I proposed. The ring has held up really well, and the diamond still shines and sparkles as much as the day it arrived. Recently, I got another diamond ring made by Whiteflash as a gift for my wife, which allowed me to relive this experience and prompted this post. But the story about that new ring will be for another day.
P.S. Just in case anyone wonders why my wife wears the ring on the wrong finger, I got the size a bit too big so it is too loose on her ring finger. We wanted a resize but my wife couldn't bear to part with it for a single day so we still haven't had a chance to do it yet. Needless to say, you can imagine how much she loves the ring. At this point, I have no idea whether we will actually have it resized.
