So I posted some invites I made awhile back, but I found some way prettier paper and decided to use it instead. I got the green floral paper and the solid green paper at Michael''s, and I ordered the ivory cardstock, the inner and outer envelopes, and the reply envelopes from www.lcipaper.com. I printed it all on my home printer. Oh, and the ribbon is from Michael''s too.

What do you think???

Thanks EBree!!! I just fell in love with the floral paper. It was really cool, too, because my future MIL came to visit (she lives in England and it was her first time in the US, first time meeting my parents, etc) and her, my mom, and me got to sit around the table and assemble invitations together! My dad took pictures, hehehehe.

Wow, they are amazing!

Wow!!! Those look really beautiful! I''m impressed

I really like them. They turned out great!

They look fantastic!!!

Seeing DIY invites like this makes me feel guilty that I don''t think we''re going to do them...I wish I wasn''t so lazy! They really look incredible; I would never have guessed they were DIY!!!

HMG--those are wonderful!!!!!! They are so unique and rich looking! I really like them a lot better than the original ones you made.

How did your envelope printing go? I found that to be incredibly tricky using both the good printer at work or the cheap printer at home. Thank god we''re done with that.

They''re gorgeous!!!!! I always love receiving homemade wedding invites...such a special treat. (of course, I had mine done at the local cheapie print shop but I was lazy)

Oh wow, I love them!! Great job!

WOW HOUMedGal, they look absolutely awesome!!!

You did an awesome job! I am going to do the invitations myself but I have no idea where to start! Were there any websites you looked at that were helpful?

Jorman, I loooove the green and cream combo. :) Our color theme is mostly sagey green, ivory (my dress is ivory) with touches of pink here and there.

Selflove, I actually didn''t print on the envelopes! I used little transparent labels, printed on them, and then stuck them onto the envelopes! I think it was a lot easier than printing on the envelopes would have been. I ordered the labels from www.paperandmore.com .

SanDiegoLady, I can''t wait to see yours when they''re done!!!!

Kaleidoscopic, Michael''s has tons of really pretty papers in the scrapbooking department area, and if you explore some places online, you can get nice cardstock in bulk for cheeeeap, and some places will even cut it for you! I actually cut most of my paper myself, with a Fiskars papercutter/ruler thingie I got at Michael''s for $14.99, and it really didn''t take me too long, only a couple of hours to cut it all.

Sosst7, there are TONS of websites to get your ideas flowing!!! Google "DIY wedding invitations." I mostly just put a little money into getting some supplies and playing with them until I ended up with something I liked. Just get creative and have fun with it! The websites I ended up using to purchase stuff from were PaperAndMore (listed above), and www.lcipaper.com for my cardstock and envelopes.

LOL, lovelylulu!!! It is encouraging to know that I do have my cardmaking skills to fall back on. hehehe!

Apple and Ginger, when will I be able to see you two?? I miss you! :)

HMG- they look beautiful!! I cannot believe your wedding is getting so close already- too exciting

OMG, you did these yourself? They look amazing! I''m super impressed!

How long did it take you to make them?

They look gorgeous, and I love the touch of the ribbon around the invite. Beautiful!

HouMed, what kind of printer and ink did you use? How did your printer print on such small cards? I guess you fed them in manually? I''m hoping I can print them myself too to cut back on costs, but I want it to look good and professional. I guess if you have nice paper and a laser jet printer it will?

Your invites are beautiful!!

Ohhhh that''s a ribbon! What an awesome idea! So can you explain a little more about how you made them? Sorry for inquiring so much

It looks like you have cream cardstock then floral on top, glued ribbon around, and then printed invite glued on top. If you did use glue at how many points did you place it. And what kind of glue did you use? (questions, questions, I love your invites!! and I''m inspired!)

Brightspot, they really didn''t take that long to make! I sat down for a couple of hours to cut the paper, and then in the same weekend, with me, my mom, and my MIL-to-be working on them for a bit here and there, we finished them all in one weekend. I was surprised, I kinda thought it would be a couple week project, but they really didn''t take that long!!

Sunkist, I actually have a really cheap printer, hehe...it''s the hp deskjet 3520 (I think it cost like $40 or something!). I just used it and the black ink cartridges that normally go in it! And my cheap printer did really surprisingly well!! So no special printer or ink or anything, just the printer I use every day.

About how to print...I used MS Word to design the layouts....you just go to "file" then "page setup" then "paper" and you can change the size of the paper to fit what you''re printing on. You can also change the margins (file-page setup-margins). So I just played around with it and printed on some test sheets that I had cut to the same size until I got what I liked. I fed the green sheets in 10 at a time, just to make sure they didn''t mess up. On the RSVP cards, it got a little tricky, because they are cardstock but they''re also small, so the printer was a bit finicky with the small, stiffer pieces of paper. I figured out that I had to put them in with one particular side up; one side of the paper was a TEEENY bit more slippery than the other side, but the printer could tell and if I put it in "wrong" side up, the paper would slip from the printer''s reel and the words would be crooked. I ended up feeding those in one at a time (I''d say "print 10 copies" but then feed each piece in with the rhythm of the printer...was a little tough but OK once I got it figured out!)

As far as how they''re put together, you''re right...ivory cardstock, with floral paper glued to it, then the ribbon glued around those two pieces, then the printed-on green sheet glued on top of the ribbon! For the glue, I found these little roll-on adhesive thingies...kinda like the roll-on white out? Except instead of white out, it''s adhesive stuff. :) I found it in the scrapbook section....they have them at Michael''s and I also found some for cheaper at Wal-Mart! So we just put some adhesive in the corners, and along the sides, and a little in the middle too.

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to just go get some stuff and play with it!!! You may be surprised with what cool stuff you can come up with! I went through several different versions before I settled on my favorite. :)

Those are sooo beautiful! You did an amazing job. I love the elegance and the color.

Thank you, Chickflick!
