My dream earrings.... will have to be replicas. Where do I find the moonstones?

Lovely, but are those moonstones glued on? I hope not!

A quick Google search indicates that it should be rather easy to source some moonstone cabs.

Definitely glued on :errrr: The bezels probably held something else before. That's pretty shoddy work... not like moonstones are expensive, they could have found ones that actually fit.

Thanks for responding everyone.

Yep, @Bron357 theyre from Etsy. :-)
https://etsy.me/2Q03mDZ and they sold for over $888 which is a massive discount from their list price (which was ridiculous anyway)

Since the moonstones would be inexpensive, should I just ask the jeweller to source them? I’ll have them bezel-set, not glued!

I might do a WTB in the PL thread as moonstones were popular awhile back and a PSer might have a pair they didn’t set. You could also check with Yvonne Raley. She has a nice cab on etsy right now. Moonstones can be white, or have secondary colors so let whatever vendor you use know what color you are after.

Try hearts of water gems. Those milestones dont look very good quality -- I cant even see the blue Schiller in any of the photos. Hearts of water should be able to find you a nice pair and properly make the bezels. Moonstone is very soft. Please dont try to buy the moonstones and give them to a random jeweler to bezel set -- that would probably be a disaster. Let hearts or water make the entire piece for you.

I would try not to give them the above picture as an inspiration picture in the first instance though -- let them find the moonstones first. Alternatively consider making the earings a bit differently. You may not want moonstones in the drops (you may want something else instead. As your inspiration picture looks more like chalcedony or another mineral).

Check out Bostongems on Instagram - Paul seems to have an excellent selection of moonstones for sale.

Just know what type of "Moonstone" you're looking for. Rainbow or Orthoclase. Both can be super nice, super pretty (super expensive at times)

But they also have the downside of undisclosed treatments. If you don't care, just want moonstone that will be pretty, Etsy seems to be the place for it. They have both types there. Depending on the size, should not be terribly expensive to get.

Do you know what size you're needing?

I’m not sure, but I think about 15mm. I believe the pictured moonstones are about 3x the size of the diamonds, roughly. So, since I have one 5mm diamond and will be having it matched, that means about 15mm moonstones. Again, roughly.

Thats going to be pretty big...any leeway, maybe 10mm? I only ask as 15mm rounds that are matched is going to be pretty interesting. Also assuming that you're OK with treatment? and have you decided Orthoclase or Labradorite?

https://www.etsy.com/shop/VettriGemsUSA - I have not shopped with him but he's in NY, does have moonstone. Might be worth asking questions for more expensive moonstone (like over 100/200 dollars)

https://www.etsy.com/shop/SDJaipurGems - have not shopped with them but they do have plenty of moonstone. some of the pictrues of the rainbow look to be photoshopped though (but they are on a black background which makes the sheen stand out more. Again, same deal here. If you're looking for Orthoclase it will be easier for you, just know that it can be dyed and you want to be careful that you don't any any funky discolorations.

I got hit with an emergency meeting which I have to attend in the next 10 mins, but I'll see what else I can find.

Thanks for taking the time to write that response @Arcadian !
I think I will ask the jeweller to help me decide the size of the moonstones once the second diamond is sourced. 10mm to 15mm will be quite different in relation to the diamonds.

I suppose I had underestimated the number of options! I didn't know that moonstone was anything other than satiny translucent whitish quartz-like stuff. I definitely don't want perceivable color in the stones (although I love labradorite).

My meeting ran long. it was a whole coronavirus thing goodness.....lol

Its good to know what you want I think so you know for sure what you'll be going after. Moonstone (Orthoclase) comes in some really amazing colors. No idea whats the rarest but yeah if you're after that satiny glow, then def. make sure its orthoclase. I will see what else I can dig up on orthoclase so that at least you'll be prepared when that time comes.

Beautiful inspiration for earrings!
Since you do not want the blue schiller or rainbow moonstone (‘moonstone’ generically speaking) -
If you have a super specific shape/tone/match you are looking for I’d contact Mastercut, or Artistic Colored Stones (when he reopens  ) to see what they may have not listed. Maybe even TheGemTrader as well.
If you aren’t super specific about shape/tone/match, Gemselect and Multicolor have plenty.

ETA a great thread https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ar-moonstone-labradorite-sunstone-etc.208567/

I do not know re sourcing moonstones but some vendors get great moonstone pieces in from time to time...
Message Sincityfinds on IG. She has lovely pieces and sometimes she comes across beautiful moonstone jewelry. Also contact @athenaworth GildedLane on IG. She has great pieces too and you never know when she might have a gorgeous moonstone piece. And XOXOthe bijoux on IG.

Beautiful earrings! I don’t know much about moonstones, but I was looking at this site last night that a lot of IG faceters seems to buy their rough from and saw this:
I wonder if he could pick a few big pieces for you and direct you to someone that could make round cabs with them..
