My goldsmith email me these pictures this morning.
One of them is really nice, the 2nd one get me worried (dark window in the middle?)
Either way it will be here next week.

To me that dark area looks less like a window, and more like the camera obstructed the light or the gem is reflecting the camera which had to be very close to the gem since it was not an expensive true macro lens with a long focal length and working distance.

Beautiful ring!

It was an iPhone. :angryfire:

You've seen the stone IRL before it was sent haven't you? If yes and it didn't show this phenomenon then it's probably going to be ok. I've not seen a stone react like this when unset it didn't. I don't know whether it's obstruction from the iPhone or not but I'd ask the setter as they have it in hand. Ask them to take another picture or ask what they see - at least that way you'll either be reassured or know to expect something you hadn't anticipated. Hope it's ok.

The ring looks good so far. Is the 2nd picture extinction, obstruction or camera reflection? I agree with LD that if you didn't see this in the stone unset, I would not worry yet.

Stone doesn't have that dark windows when I had it.
It is the iPhone, I guess.i will post my own shots next week.

I've never heard of the term "dark window" as you can see through windows. At worst, it is extinction, but I agree that is most likely reflection from a black iPhone and/or obstruction. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.

:angryfire: ?

Are you made at me? your iPhone? or yourself for expecting more from an iPhone camera?

If me, I was just trying to inform you of what the problem is, and what the solution is.
I think that warrants a thanks, not anger.

Not at you, Not at all. Thank you so much indeed.
I am an android supporter, so I blame/mad at apple for every bad pic

Likely to be camera obstructiom rather than extinction since it didn't show a window or extinction prior to being set.

Your ring is going to be gorgeous. Love the color of your emerald.

It's not apple's fault.
Almost all cameras, even real point and shoots, and 99% of the lenses that people have on their DSLRs have to be very close to the emerald to fill up the screen with the ring.

A camera/lens that can be a foot or two away, and thus not block light or be reflected in the emerald, is very very expensive so few people bother with them.
Even many real macro lenses have to be too close and will also get reflected by the emerald.

If that was my emerald, I'd be counting the hours till it comes home.

I would too, hours & minutes. The color is beautiful & so is the setting. The dark area is exactly where the iPhone would be held to take the 2nd photo, so it must be reflection or obstruction. If that ring were coming my way, I wouldn't be able to sleep!

It looks good, but we'll definitely need more pictures. To be honest, I can't tell if the side diamonds are just one or a grouping of diamonds, so I know I want to be able to see more of the detail. And of course, hand shots are always welcome! :Up_to_something:

I am excited for you! Can't wait to see your pictures. =)

love it! can't wait to see some handshots.

Don't hate me but your comment made me laugh! from that stones point of view it could have been any type of smartphone camera and the stone would have been equally moody :P I'm sure it will look great in person
