For christmas santa gave to me a cute little OEC!
9.gif

My mum decided to pass down to me my great grandmothers OEC's that she had re-set due to the original setting being to fragile (sadly she didn't keep the original) to use as an engagement ring to my dad. I'm not a fan of their current setting though I didn't get profile pickies (I'll them add later).

I am guessing that the stones themselves are about 75+ years old, I have just sent it off to get an evaluation done and will know a bit more about them tomorrow the two sides show more warmth than the center which is appx 30pts? I have no idea really. Maybe SI2 - I1 one side isn't eye clean.

I would love to know more about the cut of these little sparklers please

Those are beautiful diamonds! I actually like the setting they are in.

I am a real fan of the antique diamonds

Beautiful!

What a lovely ring!!

I love the setting too! They look like old european cuts. I can definitely see the pretty culet on the stone on the left in the first picture. Can you take a look and see if all stones show somewhat of a culet? That would pretty much peg them as oec. Transitional cuts, the next in the progress toward the modern round brilliant usually show no/really small culets and their faceting would be very regular resembling a quilt. Hope that helps.

Whatever they are, the ring is beautiful!!! And a terrific piece of your family''s story. Congratulations!!

My opinion is... that I want them!!! LOL. Beautiful heirlooms!

Those are beautiful looking stones! The greatest part is that they have family history, that is something money can''t buy! Please come back and let us know what you end up doing with these beauties!

Lovely stones!

That is just a gorgeous sentimental ring!

I think they look like lovely stones - I love OECs, they just throw off the most beautiful chunky flashes of fire.

I could see where you might want to get them re-set, maybe back into something a little more antique-ey. Would love to hear what the appraisal says!

What a cool ring! Really beautiful.

Hi Savvymon,

What a lovely present from your mom!

I ADORE it - and I think the setting is lovely too. What do you not like about it? You can certainly retool the setting a bit to give it a bit more of a vintage feel by having the shank engraved, as well as the sides of the bezels so you see pretty patterns from the side.

Any day light pics?

Engraving the shank and bezels would give it a lovely look!!

Thankyou all !!! I feel really thrilled by all your compliments!

I Think the OEC look is growing on me! I LOVE the perfection in Rhino''s H & A (although I dont own one yet) and I think the personallity of these lovelys is totally unique.

Grace and Upgradable what a fantastic idea! I love it!

Who would do such a thing? A jeweller? Ill take some pics today in day light. It''s the heavy bezel look that Im not loving, though I will look into getting the shank and bezels engraved, has anyone got some examples of what sorts of patterns can be achieved? Or examples of others who have had this done?

Upgradable they all do have a culet when looking through the loup.

Ill tell all about the the evaluation this afternoon

HI:

Swaeeet!

cheers--Sharon

More pics more pics!!!

I picked her up today and the appraiser said that they're Early Round Brilliant cut, I think Transtional OEC sounds better. Not good news on the Clarity two of the diamonds have precision marks & surface reaching fractures which makes me a bit worried.

Ill be keeping them in the same setting though Ive worn it all day and I think Im falling in love.
5.gif
I think Ill still look into getting the engraving done.

The center is 30 pts, I1 G-I, Small Culet. One side is 15pts, I1 G-I, Med Culet and the other side is 20pts, H-J, I1, Med Culet.

On a very Australian Gum Leaf!

Hi Savvymom,

If you are concerned about the fractures, then its really best that the stones stay where they are - bezels are best for protecting the integrity of diamonds anyway.

I am attaching something that you may want to mirror for you piece - some pretty cut-outs on the bezels to add some oommph and visual interest.

..

I am attaching another sample of an engraved ring that you can have done - of course, there are many many more out there that you can find. This is just to give you an idea of how much a little bit of engraving can change the look and feel of any piece of jewelry. You may begin the hunt for an engraver by asking estate jewelers in your area for referrals.

Good luck with your special project - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE family pieces like this! Cant wait to see what you decide.

Green Lake Jewelry does some beautiful engraving! You might want to contact them and inquire.

Your setting would look wonderful with cutouts. It''ll give your ring a lighter feeling. Other than that, I love your sparklers!

I love it just the way it is.

Especially with the cat.

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!!!!!!!

I love the cut out idea.

Thankyou ever so much Grace for the pics they look great, I''ve been asking around and I have found someone who engaraves jewellery (apparently they''re the best in my state???) The only catch is that they are on hollidays untill the 9th of Jan.

Upgradable, Thankyou for recomending Green Lake Jewelry Im going to have a look around their website although what I saw in a quick look was really nice, the only catch is I''m in a different country. There are some great ideas on there that I may steal

I may even leave the ring as it is, because if the engraving looks terrible I''d be to worried about getting them reset. Hmmmmmmm

Oh and as a side note the cat is Shifter who is my European Burmese, I also have his brother who is Savvy hence my screen name Savvymon = Savvy Monster

Though I certainly wouldn''t dissuade you from a more antiquey engraved setting. Those are gorgeous, as well, of course. Can''t wait to see what you choose!

I think it''s beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
