Hi everyone!

Long time casual lurker here! I just purchased my first grownup RH ring to celebrate a work milestone. I fell in love with the setting and it was advertised as an Old European cut so I was IN! I love OEC’s hence my very uncreative username

looking more closely at the diamond, I don’t believe I have a true OEC, so I was hoping you may be able to help with some poorly taken photos.

The table is larger than my other OEC pieces, with a pretty shallow crown, but there is still a tiny culet which is very obviously off centre under a loupe. It also throws the chunky sparkles that I love in an OEC. The facets are also larger than a brilliant cut. I suspect I may have a Transitional round brilliant cut dimond.

Would really appreciate it if you could let me know your thoughts! I don’t have any large brilliant cut diamonds to compare (my e-ring is a princess cut) so it’s hard for me to compare...I am soooo sorry about the poor up close photos. It’s the best I can do with a cheap loupe and iPhone camera!

Is the setting in PT or WG?

It looks like a late transitional cut, just before round brilliants. I can't tell if the melee is old cut, can you focus on those? and a picture of the bottom of the ring please. It looks like a newer made ring. Pretty though! The table is larger but the proportions seem to balance well so I don't see girdle reflection or obvious leakage.

Are you trying to decide if it's worth the money? If so we'd need more information, like diamond size and specs, ring material, total ctw.

I concur with @ForteKitty, she is an expert compared to me ;)

I love this setting!!! I think the diamond is beautiful too

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the help! And yes, she’s a beauty...:kiss2:

also, I said in my original post tbe culet was off-centre, but it was because I wasn’t really looking at it straight on... it’s pretty much placed perfectly in the centre and there is pretty good symmetry in the stone, much better than most of my OEC’s which actually do have slightly off-round shape and off-centre culets.

The setting is in white gold, though I’m pretty sure this is a new make ring!

Yes, it definitely seems to be a new make ring! It was listed under Vintage/Estate at the jewellers and in that category I know they put in consignment and pre-owned (but neither vintage nor estate) pieces as well. The melee are modern round brilliant cuts for sure.
And definitely not trying to decide if it is worth the money, it is worth it to me. :kiss2: The centre is 0.86ct and setting 0.56ctw for a total of 1.42ctw. I was just happy to find an older cut at a local jeweller and be able to see it in person before committing!

Just brought it home thinking I had an OEC but when I looked at the table size and crown height I got a little confused. Pleasantly surprised I have a transitional cut instead!

And since I’m among fellow Diamond lovers, more photos because I couldn’t resist.....(including the bottom, but a little hard to take a good photo)image.jpg

Just wanted to come back (now that I’ve had coffee!) and look at this ring again. I love the scalloped detail on the setting, it makes the ring so feminine and delicate. Rather amazing to come upon an old cut at a local jeweler. I have seen them in pawn shops here but most of the jewelers don’t have any old cuts on offer.

It has great presence too, very beautiful.

I agree...I live in Canada, and where I am we just don’t have a great selection of places that would carry jewelry in my preferences to begin with. We have lots of mall stores and some locally owned stores, but very few with reasonable prices and excellent workmanship. I’ve been going to this jeweller for the last 12 years, since I picked out my engagement ring there (a consignment piece) with my then-fiance.

I went in to pick up my engagement ring from a shank replacement and decided to check this out during my appointment because I had been eyeing it on their website for months. Nobody wanted an old cut so (in my opinion) the price was pretty good. I was hoping I’d hate it in person, but a month and a resize later, here it is home with me :twirl:

Yes it looks transitional (which I love btw). Very pretty pattern!

Ohh can I ask who the jeweller is? It is SO hard to find old cuts in Canada. The struggle is real.

It’s Alberta Diamond Exchange in Calgary, but they are not known for old cuts. Pretty sure it’s just a fluke they had this as I’ve been shopping with them for 12 years and rarely see old cuts! They do have a couple of other OEC pieces right now though.

That's beautiful. I tend to prefer transitional cuts to old European cuts. This one is really beautiful! Looks like it has great spread and sparkle :)

Great find - it's beautiful!
