i'll admit it.

my FI's priest gave us two options: we can either do some paperwork and have the marriage recognized right away by the catholic church or have it convalidated afterwards with a mini ceremony, the first being the technically proper way to do it.

i told him it was totally up to him but in my head.......

i want to get it convalidated so that i can wear another cute white dress for the mini ceremony.

spill it girls - tell me you've had similar moments! justify me!

no one? ouch!

shame sets in....

i... LOVE... my dress... and would totally love the thought of being able to wear it again.

Even for a mini ceremony.

My dress is pretty fancy, so I don''t think I''d be able to get away with it, plus I doubt FI would really want to... but that''s such a cute idea.

I know of at least 2 couples where they were married in a civil ceremony that no one knew about before their actual wedding.
In the one case the girl totally bought a cute white dress or suit to wear.

I believe that Gwen Stephani did something like this because they had one wedding in England and one in LA and then they did the convalidation ceremony.

This all being said - do you really want another ceremony? or would you rather just fill out the paper?
Do you think your new in-laws would appreciate the convalidation ceremony?

umm...i don''t know about his fam, but my FI would rather have the ceremony.....but he also wants to be a good catholic and do it the right way by just filling out the paper work. so who knows

but just in case....i''m envisioning making a short white strapless dress made out of silk tafetta with a cute little bolero/jacket that extends to a little button front closure.

but i think it''s just horrible that i''m thinking of things like this while i should be focused on what is the right thing to do for my FI''s catholic faith!

I am Catholic and my DH is not- we had a Catholic ceremony and the priest who married us is a younger priest- I went to college w/ some of his cousins and when we were prepping for our wedding I asked how they were doing.
His one cousin married a girl who wasn''t Catholic, and had been married before and therefore they got married outside the C. church and had the convalidation ceremony after they processed the annulment of her first marriage- (which is basically just a matter of paperwork and waiting I have a feeling.)
The priest did not seem at all bothered by this- in fact he made it seem like it was like a little 2nd mini-wedding.
So hey- I say go for it!

Also you could probably wear that little white dress you are envisioning on your honeymoon as well if you went somewhere warm!

Ok...is that the way you said it to him? You know about wanting to wear another white dress?

Hey there is nothing wrong with it...and I am not laughing at you, oh heck yes I am. That is funny. I mean there you sat in the office and well, darn it you want another pretty dress!

I really don''t see it as vain, but practical!

Oh, and funny.§

haha no! i never said anything to him! all i told him was that i supported whatever he wanted to do as it was his faith.....but in my HEAD i am nudging him towards convalidation for the second mini ceremony
