I’ve had a pretty rough month. The stone that I had originally planned for my project didn’t quite work out, the purchase of my dream home fell through and we had 2 unexpected deaths in the family within a week of each other. Needless to say, I’ve been desperate for a “pick-me-up.” But enough complaining- I’ve been searching for a the perfect center stone for my ballerina ring project for quite some time now. After spending an embarrassing amount of time scouring the internet and Instagram; I came across this little garnet. The cut REALY spoke to me. Marie (Amaterragems) cut it in her own design! So I reached out to her hoping that she could cut a similar stone in sapphire or chrysoberyl. She was quick to respond that she would be more than happy to but unfortunately she is on a leave for at least 6 months. Disappointing news on my end but I knew I had to have the cut so I purchased the garnet. It arrived today and it’s even better than expected! I’m absolutely thrilled! I obviously won’t be setting it in my ballerina ring project because it’s a garnet but it is truly a work of art. It provided me with some much needed excitement and happiness and I’m excited to plan a project for it since my current project is stalled. It will most likely be a low budget project so I don’t cut into my current plans but I’m thinking a Georgian inspired ring, perhaps collet set, or maybe I can find a lesser expensive rose cut diamond alternative (maybe white topaz?) and do a chunky halo. Anyways it’s rainy today so I apologize for the poor photos but here she is!!!!! The last photo is Marie’s image. FBA85BFF-0DAD-46E8-9D18-72F0EA02B9D8.jpeg

my condolences on the lose of your family members and a hug over you not getting that house
This is a beaitiful little pick me up
It is way too lovelly not to snap it up when you did
may in be a herald of happier times

Looking forward to see what you now do with it

Oh the cut is stunning!! I can see why you're so excited to work with it. May I ask a stupid question... what is a ballerina ring? Whatever it is, I want one now.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about the passing of your family members. My condolences to you, @Mjay. And good luck with finding your dream home... the right one will come along eventually!

Thank you for your kind words. A ballerina ring is an Art Deco style baguette halo ring. They are often referred to as ballerina rings because the baguette halos look like a ballerina’s tutu.

Ahhh I've seen them! The halo undulates, yes? I love it!! Which gem are you reserving for that special setting? =)2

Yes! Well at least on a lot of the vintage pieces. A lot of designers are doing more modern versions now. I want a more durable stone for that piece. Hoping for a special sapphire but I’m open to spinal or chrysoberyl. The hunt continues!
