She told me not to tell any of the family yet (except my FI), but I just had to tell someone. I guess I''ll have to give you the long and complicated background just so you don''t think my family is completely crazy.

My parents had me when they were very young, 17 and 18, and got married just for that reason. A year after I was born, my mom had a tubal pregancy, so they said she''d only have a 50% chance of getting pregnant again. Well, my father was (is) a complete jerk and an alcoholic. When I was 14, my mom finally divorced him and re-married a wonderful man 2 years later. I just adore Thomas, my stepdad, and am so happy my mom finally has the husband and life she deserves. Shortly after they got married, she got a cyst on her ovaries and had it removed. After that, the doctors she had a very slim chance of ever getting pregant again. So, with one tube and one ovary, she got pregnant when I was 18. At 19, my little miracle brother, Ethan, was born. It was weird going from being an only child for nearly 20 years to have a little brother but I loved it! He is the greatest little guy ever and I love him more than anything. Now, my mom is 38 and pregnant again. Weird, huh?

The human body never ceases to amaze me! Congratulations to your mother!

Wow, that is an amazing story!! Congratulations to your mom, and I am so glad she finally has the husband she deserves and is able to have children with him! Enjoy your soon-to-be little baby brother/sister!

Thanks.

I feel bad because I''m not as excited about this as I was with Ethan.

Don''t worry, you will be when you meet the baby. And I bet Ethan can use the extra attention from his big sis, anyway.

Congratulations!! Once that little baby is here, you''ll be more excited.

I''ll be around that age when I am starting my family so it gives us ''old PSer''s'' hope that are eggs don''t dry up that fast.

My dad and my stepmom has a daughter, she''s 22 years younger than me. He was 50 and she was 38. It is weird...especically since she doesn''t look anything like my brother and I. She looks just like her other half sister, my step-sister though.

What an amazing story!
I guess one should never give up!

How exciting, that''s great. Good for her, I bet she''s thrilled.

Wow, I can''t imagine having a baby at 50.

I''m just glad I don''t plan on having children for another 5-7 years. Though, my children will still have uncle(s) or an aunt that can be their playmate.

Thanks everyone! My mom is very excited, though still shocked. It''s funny to think my stepdad didn''t want children at all because he didn''t think he''d be a good father and after Ethan, he decided he wanted another one!

XChick03, that''s great news!!! I bet your mother is sooo excited!

My mom and her mom were pregnant at the same time! My poor mother was completely horrified, but it''s worked out well for me since I don''t have any sisters! My "Aunt", who is 6 months younger than I am, was just down to visit us with her family and we had a blast! Her and my mom have more of an aunt/niece relationship than a sister one though, because they never lived in the same home together.

I''m 36, and we''re going to have IVF this year (after 11yrs of trying)...but I can''t imagine having a grown child at this age! We''re blown by the fact that our son is twelve already! Your Mom sounds like a brave woman, and kudos to her for finding happiness! Don''t feel bad that you''re not more excited right now! You will be once that baby actually gets here and you fall in love with him/her!

I agree. You probably are just shocked because there was such a slim chance she could have another baby. Your mom and stepdad must be thrilled. That proves you should never give up.

I''m sure I will love the baby. It''d be impossible not to!

Tacori, the strangest part is that they just started trying to have another baby a few weeks ago. They decided that they would try until May (her next birthday) and if she didn''t get pregnant by then, they''d give up. Oh, and I was mistaken before. She''s 39.

Wow, congrats to your mother! It''s a great story...

My mom and dad started trying for kids at 21/25, but had my brother at 28/32 and then my sister and I came along 18 months later! Funny how the body works...

I read over your post and thought of course you are in shock...Your mom sounds like a woman who truly wanted to have kids and they will be blessed to have her as their mother.

My mother and father never used birth control and just had kids when they were supposed to. They married in 1957 and had me in 1960. My three brothers came every 3 to 4 years. She had a ruptured ovary and eventually ended up having female problems that led to her hysterectomy a few years later.

As for me, I married at 20 years old, had my first child when I was 21. I haven''t had the female problems my mother has, but have had a different type of problem where I have a condition that has me double ovulating every other month. I conceived three of my kids on the pill and lost a multiple birth of twins or triplets while taking the pill.

Kids are a joy...and a pain sometimes, but truly a blessing...

Life finds a way.., that is awesome... A big Congratulations to your mom!!

congrats! i always thought it would have been so cool to have a little baby sibling while older! i agree you will be so excited when the little one comes!

Dont feel bad Xchick it takes time to feel excited. When I was a senior in HS and my older sister a soph in college when I found out my mother was going to have another baby. My older sister (20 when the little was born) was not very excited. Now however that our little sister is here I cannot and neither can she imagine how we were a family without her, and our brother really enjoys spending time with her and teaching her things.
It will get better, just give yourself time to adjust.

Hey I think it''s just wonderful news.

My oldest was 17 when Angello was born. He wasn''t thrilled but I told him look at it this way:
You''ve got yourself a built in fan club. And boy do they love and adore big brother!

That''s right. I''m a grandma only I''m called Mimi. I wouldn''t change things for all the world. You find more love than you believe possible. Chick, when the new baby arrives you will feel differant. The only way I can explain it is like I tell my kids( and grand kids) I love them each the same. It''s just I''ve loved the older ones LONGER

Just a note for those who think I''m an old Granny hording sugar packets at resturants and yelling at kids to stay off my lawn...I got me a YOUNGER MAN!! YUP, I''m doing the Demi thing!!! And, I was doing it before she was(about a month, but still before).

Thanks everyone! I talked to my mom a few hours ago and she was really excited, so I am more excited about it now and I feel a lot better after reading all of your posts. And just for the heck of it, this is a picture of Ethan at his first Christmas when he was almost a year old. My mom and I spent all night putting that horse together, while my stepdad and fiance watched.

I am so proud of him!

She''s a lucky lady. Good for her! I''d do it again.. and I''ll be 40 in June.. *sigh* But.. it won''t ever happen to me, my FI''s fixed.
