I typically get couples champagne flutes for engagements... but well, I don''t know if I want to do the same thing for her that I do for everyone else. Unfortunatley I can''t think of anything else.

I want something romantic and for the both of them. Maybe a gift certificate to a nice restaurant... but I wanted something that lasts.

Any ideas?

Hi Gypsy
What about a really special pair of candlesticks?
I only use mine on special occasions and I always remember who gave them to me.

i love the idea of champagne flutes! my fmil gave them to us...we used them the night we got engaged and will be using them at our wedding :)

You are in my brain! I was thinking of that as well. They are young. She''s 23 and he''s only a couple of years older. I was just wondering if they''d appreciate the candlesticks. I registered and recieved a pair of lovely ones I adore for my wedding, so I thought it might be a nice gift.

I liked them when I got them, but didn''t appreciate them like I do now. I think that is what makes them such a special gift

The Tiffany flutes are my favorite, and both candlesticks are beautiful. I think I prefer the BG ones.

I would have preferred flutes over candlesticks when I was 23. Flutes are a really nice gift idea!

Yay for your niece!

I give waterford crystal frames - and everyone has always loved them.

ETA: CONGRATS TO YOUR NEICE!!!!

I prefer the flutes idea too. I would love to receive some.

Thank you everyone. I think I''m going to get flutes, and leave it up to John, her uncle, which ones to give. I am leaning toward the Tiffany just because it is so special to get the blue box.

I think all of those are nice ideas, but I''d like the Waterford frame more because it would be out and used all the time. I have sterling candlesticks that have never made it out of the china cabinet. And we rarely use champagne flutes either. In fact, I have a whole china cabinet of really nice stuff that we never use!

I almost always give a crystal photo frame, either by waterford, mikasa or kate spade. They're going to have tons of pictures taken (engagement party, e-pics, wedding etc) that will serve as great memories - and the frame lasts forever.

You must be excited to have a close wedding in the family! I'm curious to know what her e-ring looks like

ETA: oops, sorry, I just saw you've made a decision already. Ignore post!

I haven''t run it by her uncle yet, so it''s all good-- feel free to keep the suggestions coming. I''m not a fan of crystal frames. The ones I''ve had are not balanced right and fall over, especially with a crazy cat, which she has. I''m just not a fan, by way of personal preference and by experience with my own cats. Her cat is also the reason why I was sticking to shorter candlesticks. But I think the flutes might be best because the go in the cabinet. Her cat is a crazylittle freakazoid.

I love the idea of champagne flutes! I think it''s a classy and useful gift - and anytime they use it, on all the future happy occasions as well as the wedding, they''ll be reminded of their great aunt who lovingly gave it to them

I do a couple of different things for friends that get engaged...

1. A waterford ring holder...which is beautiful, but also practical. It comes in various shapes and in different collections, so you have the option to go with what the bride''s personal style is.

example: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=182843&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

2. A plaque of some sort (sometimes stone, sometimes just really cute) with an "established" date. This isn''t super common, and not something you see a lot of...so I like that aspect of it.

example: http://www.saraboocreek.com/personalized-signs-gifts/details/?category=17&code=155

(I always ask that there be an EST date as additional directions)

3. Gift certificate to a framing store. I know it sounds kind of silly....but I include a note encouraging the bride to use it towards framing something from her wedding. My friend used hers to have a sample of all of her "wedding related" invitations and thank you notes framed and matted...it hangs in her bedroom and is awesome!

John likes the Tiffany Flutes, so we''re going to go with those. Probably with a bottle of champage for them as well. :-) Thank you everyone!

I know you''ve already decided, but have you seen any of the Vera Wang flutes??
