I bought an Edwardian demantoid ring this afternoon. It has a pair of bright, sparkly grass-green demantoid garnets set with little rose-cut diamonds in platinum, with an 18K yellow gold shank. No markings, but it looks French to me. The demantoids are fairly small, about 4 mm each, which is what? .25 carats or so? But they sparkle like crazy, and one of them has a classic horsetail inclusion right under the table--it looks like a dandelion gone to seed.

I took some pictures, but it''s nighttime here and the flash doesn''t flatter the stones. I''ll try to get some better photos in the daylight tomorrow.

Here it is with my Victorian cabochon sapphire (whose rose-cut diamonds aren''t looking so nice in this lighting!).

The rose-cut diamonds in the demantoid ring are nice and white. They''re looking a little yellow in these pictures because of windowing--I think we''re seeing through to my finger. Or maybe just to the yellow gold that backs the platinum.

Very pretty. Love the color of the stones.

It''s beautiful!! Love the color of the demantoids. The setting really shows them off well, it''s a lovely ring. Enjoy!!!

Ohhhh, beautiful!!!!

Thank you!

I love the Santa hats on everybody''s avatars.

Ohhh how cool! Love it.

Lovely antique ring, and I like the sapphire too!

Oh, it''s beautiful!

Now that it''s daylight, I took some photos.

First, a few shots of the horsetail in one of the demantoids:

Lovely, what a fantastic piece of art! Can I ask if you bought this on ebay, as I was looking at a similar ring?

Very pretty - great colour on the demantoids.

The cab sapphire''s lovely too!

Congratulations!

Another horsetail shot. The color isn''t very accurate in any of these, but this is the best of the three.

This is the other demantoid, the one without the horsetail. It''s a little brighter than the one with the horsetail.

Here''s my 1.48 ct tsavorite ring with the new demantoid ring. The tsav is bluer and less sparkly.

The colors on that last photo are so much duller than real life!

Anyway, here''s a close-up of the tsavorite, just for fun. I like this shot because you can see the natural on the edge (upper right) and a needle inclusion (which reflects around a bit).

Here''s the demantoid with its friend the sapphire.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

Pandora, how on earth did you get the color of your tsav in your avatar to show up so well? My photos always wash out the greens.

Stepcutnut, I bought this at a weekend flea market. I don''t know if the seller also sells on ebay; she does have a shop in NYC.

One last shot. The stone with the horsetail is at the bottom. See how the other one is a little brighter?

Very pretty! I love demantoids. They have such a unique color! Your tsavorite ring is very beautiful as well!

Beautiful demantoids! The horsetail is gorgeous, and the color is my favorite. I love your pieces, Glitterata!

I love your new ring! That setting is so unique and the color of the demantoids is just beautiful!

Oh so fun!!! I really like the sapphire ring too - the stone is really cool.
