Ok, so thanks to a thread about underpinnings a few weeks ago I found a longline bra that is actually long enough... but since it''s essentially just lace and has no real structure to it, I also got a flesh toned girdle to go underneath. It''s just the "round the waist and under the boobs" style. The latex kind, though I guess I didn''t really notice that at first.

MAN.

This thing is, um, TIGHT.

I ordered a size smaller than my pants size, as they said to, but whew... Once I finally got it fastened, though I looked FABULOUS, I felt like a, well, like someone stuck in a middle-Europe torture device! It says to wear 1 hour the first day, 2 hours the second, etc... building up to wearing it for a full day (or for my wedding!) and it really does great things for my figure, and for my posture, but geez...

Anyone else wearing a girdle or am I the only victim of self-inflicted torture?

Hee...reminds me of the time I went to a Ren Faire and had someone PROPERLY lace up my bodice. I think my lung capacity was whacked to about 10% of normal. Gads.

Maybe try ordering the one in your pants size (next size up?). I''m guessing since it''s latex, it will still have the same effect, but without causing the vapors?

The corset lacing is the reason I wanted to have this... so my dress wouldn''t have to be the main support. But you know, that dress was so comfortable when I tried it on. My first fitting is next month, so I''ll try and get used to this because I think it will work... it did start to feel a little less difficult at the end of the hour... maybe because I knew it was time to take it off!

I''m not wearing a girdle, but I did order my Spanx a size smaller than recommended so they would be a little more slenderizing...

I also had to wear a corset for fittings in costume construction class...just REMEMBER: Don''t Lock Your Knees!

I wasn''t planning on wearing one, though the posture help is intriguing (my posture is awful!). I''m hoping my long line bra will correct that a bit though.

When you say latex, you mean like rubber glove material??? Isn''t that really really hot?

It''s latex lined with something... the outside is latex but the part next to the skin is fabric and soft. And yes, it was rather warm! That could be a problem!

Maybe I ought to keep looking into having something made.

I am full-figured. Awhile back I purchased a product from hsn.com. Once it''s on, it''s very comfortable and very slimming. Don''t drink too much.

Rhonda Shear High-Waisted Longline Shaper - Item: 209-923 $24.95
32%spandex five star rating from customers. I went with my pant size. If it doesn''t work out, you can always return it.

Thanks dmamsquared. I specifically wanted something that didn''t cover my legs since it''s a full A-line dress. I don''t want anything to be difficult to get in and out of if I have to use the restroom. I imagine it will be hard enough with the dress! I got this cute little lace boy-shorts that will allow me to be modest while dressing in front of people, but still be lacy. I just need something to cinch in my middle so my corset dress doesn''t have to do all the work.

Haha... thanks to that description, Sum, I now have an amusing mental image of this girdle actually BEING a scary metal middle-Europe torture device. Like, the kind where your poor husband will unzip your dress at the end of the night and need a key to unlock it...

But I can see why they''d recommend wearing it for increasing increments of time to build up a resistance. I wore a regular long-line bra, not overly tight... and then my dress, which was actually loose enough that I had to keep hiking it up. But I ended up with huge blotchy bruises and sore muscles all over my stomach and back for DAYS after the wedding... I''m guessing just from the sheer weight of the dress? Or the pressure of that weight on the boning in the bra? Who knows... but it was pretty gross!!

OK that story was kind of irrelevant... I really just intended to advise definitely keeping up the "practice" sessions in the torture-bra!

That''s too funny, Ephem! Yes, well, hooks and eyes are kind of like padlocks to men anyway, eh? I''ll have them round the back with the bra as well as round front with the cincher. And the corset laces! I''m seriously going to have to get a going-away suit just so I have an excuse to change when the bridesmaids are still around!!! M will have no patience or gentleness with laces, our wedding night or no!

So sorry you were so bruised! It was probably the boning combined with the weight of the dress.

what kind of undergarmet is it sumbride? I am still looking for something for my dress
I have bought about 3 different items, none of them i am overly happy with

I am looking for something that will give me a little waist definition? I am fairly petite, but not very curvy at all!

It''s this one: Girdle

I''m sort of straight up and down, with a tummy, and this one not only helps with the tummy, it did make me look more hour glass. If I can just get through the torture!

For the bra, I went with this: Merry Widow

I needed something that was long enough to actually go past my waist (I''m very long-waisted) but be pretty, and since most of the support is in the girdle, this one fits the bill.

I wore a longline bra for my wedding and my dress had boning in it and I had the most difficult time breathing in it! I could hardly even eat it was so tight. I sucked me in and I looked great though (although I''m thin to begin with).

Sum, I have to say, that sounds very uncomfortable! Wearing 2 undergarments under your dress.. any way you can find something pretty that also has the structure? Of course, I''m looking to answer that same question. I went to Macy''s a few weeks ago and tried on some long, strapless bra''s which, not only didn''t fit very well (they just didn''t really stay in place), were very boring.
I really like your bra, very pretty!
Good luck! How''s it feel today?

Dixie - I wish! The pretty ones with structure just don''t come in my size! The combination wasn''t uncomfortable, just the girdle. The bra itself is actually very comfy. I''ve worn them before though, so it''s not a new feeling to me, but I was actually rather happy with it. It''s just the awful cincher. I''m shopping for a crinoline now, so I''m going to be wearing quite a bit under my dress! I''m hoping that the temps will stay in the low end of their range!

I didn''t get a chance to put it on last night as I was doing some crazy cleaning for a party this weekend and didn''t want to deal with it, but once that''s over, it''s back to the schedule!
