I have contacted so many vendors, and in the end it was FrekeChild who came to the rescue. That is what PS is all about, I think. Thank you!

I am a person who kindasorta loves stones with inclusions. I prefer silky sapphires and spinels, color zoning, and "salt and pepper" in diamonds. I don't know why. So when in my maddening search for a moonstone Freke said "Well this one is included but..." I jumped all over it.

It arrived today and I really like it! It is included but a great size and the blue is spectacular. It has that all over blue with very little orange, but orange does make a guest appearance from time to time.

Inclusions or not I think all moonstones look ideal in dark metal, so that was already the plan. Here is my idea:

An oval three stone ring. The moonstone is the center. The side stones will be an unheated pink oval sapphire and an oval diamond. All the stones will be in a diamond halo. I may instead do two oval diamonds for side stones and a pink sapphire wedding band. I want pink in there somehow.

Now for the fun part: the ring will either be 14k white gold dipped in black rhodium, or oxidized platinum. Here are pictures of the stone itself and an inspiration ring picture. You can see how the inclusions are much less noticeable against black.

Lovely stone. It certainly could stand on its own too! I love the idea of a darkened metal.

Beautiful! Congrats on getting your Moonstone! Sounds like such a fun project; can't wait to see it finished.

What a beauty!!! This could easily stand on its own.

Elliot,
So happy you finally found a lovely moonstone. I like the idea of oxidized metal around it. Moonstone looks great in white metal, and oxidized sound fabulous. I'm not sure if you're also intending on backing the stone with more metal, but I wouldn't, as a backing could trap moisture and dirt. Perhaps a heavier gallery would suffice.

It's beautiful!!!

It's beautiful! Can't wait to see it set!

Its gratifying that this forum is so helpful in helping wishes come true, particularly in this case. It was because you posted about your difficulties, instead of just giving up, that you found your moonstone. I love the size, the base color and the blue sheen. I have no doubts it will be beautiful when set. Yay for you!

Thanks all! I'm really excited and sketching up a storm. I definitely don't want a closed basket, I imagine that could get pretty grimy.

Now that I have lived with the moonstone for a few days I feel pretty contented with it. It has a great personality

Elliot, how awesome is it that you finally found your moonstone through PS?! :appl: :appl: love the happy ending to your quest!
The blue sheen on it is beautiful, just heavenly shimmer~~ it will even more beautiful once set, I think the oxidized metal is a great idea to really make the stone "pop", have you seen Leon Mege's oxidized metal rings? They are stunning! :)

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy that it went to a good home! I loved it even with it's inclusions because you just can't beat that sheen across it. It was captivating even in the nasty ancient fluorescent lighting in the store. I can't wait to see what you do with it!!!!!!

Yeah it is really really cool, I couldn't have done it without you Freke! :appl:

I brought the stone to work last night to play with under different lighting and it attracted quite a crowd! So many people either didn't know what a moonstone was or had never seen a nice blue one with the bright traveling billows of blue shimmer. There is one lady I work with who is super into birthstones/healing stones and chatted with me about moonstone and it's healing properties. She was very surprised at my intention to not only wear it as an engagement ring, but set it in platinum and diamonds! :cheeky: I think she thought it was going to be more of a worry stone to keep in my pocket.

This project and the idea of these stones being set in oxidized platinum makes me giddy. I have been obsessed with Cathy Waterman and her gothic/organic style for years, her jewelry is a big inspiration.

Moonstones are rather soft (6 on the mohs scale), so if you're doing PT, be careful who sets it, as that is a very hard metal and can damage the stone during the setting process.

Gorgeous ring.

So excited for you. Moonstone is my favorite! I think your idea with a diamond on each side of the moon stone using a dark metal is brilliant maybe even a super tiny twisted rope like making the band on it, Congratulations on your find. :appl:

Thats a beautiful stone, and it would really pop in a CW inspired setting. I saw some of her settings at twist online http://www.twistonline.com/

they have some amazing settings over there period.

It's beautiful, like the Cindy Crawford of moonstones with it's own beauty spot! Can't wait to see it set.

This thread is from Nov 2014 and Elliot86 listed the mooonstone on LT, sooooo we won't be seeing a finished product any soon. :))
