I decided to check out some pawn shops, thanks to inspiration from @StephanieLynn, and look what I found! Old European cut, .25, in a vintage miracle head mounting. It's very clean and white.
I cannot find any inclusions.
StephanieLynn, you are a bad influence on me!!:P2
The first pawn shop had only a little jewelry, and nothing of interest to me.
The second one I went into had trays and trays of diamond rings, and lots of vintage settings.
I saw several OECs, but this one was the best, and in my price range... $199!
As I was louping the stones, the guy says "So you must know all about diamonds", and I said, very innocently, "Oh, not really, I just look for the pretty ones!" LOL

oh that is so pretty @stracci2000! What a great find. Love the OEC and love the setting too.:appl:

Oooh stracci, I love it! Really pretty! :appl::love:

Um, that is awesome not only the ring but that there were trays of rings to look through

Seriously though that is an awesome find and a great price too maybe that is a place you need to keep on your radar and make it a regular haunt!

That's a lovely find! what a great score :mrgreen2: it's a beautiful stone

I told the guy that I'd be back! He had a few other things I was interested in, and of course he gets new stuff all the time. I had never gone into pawn shops before. There are several more in my vicinity that I will be checking out.

It is near impossible to find old cuts in pawn shops around here, I found one once but it was very very yellow, like not at all pretty.

You know I was looking for an OEC recently, I should have asked you to hunt one down and paid you a finders fee!

And that one is a pretty one! Looks like a high color too! Nice find!

Edit...you dont actually pay the asking price do you? Just want to make sure.

Oh no, he wanted $250, and I bargained down to $199. This girl doesn't pay full price for anything!
My Dad says I'm tighter than 2 coats of paint.:P2

So here is my OEC collection, so far!

1. The new ring, .25, color undetermined, but loupe clean.
2. A reset in a Stuller setting .76 G SI
3. The man's ring is .75 G VVS. The man's ring was a gift from a dear friend before he passed away, so I never had the heart to reset it. DH wears it now, and I wear it once in a while too, for fun.

Lucky girl! You have a great collection there and I'm betting you probably have some more old cuts you need to share with the group!

I'm getting an OEC ring but not a diamond (I know I probably offended the purists of the world there) I just like the cut so much, maybe someday when the kids are older I'll get a nice diamond OEC around a carat.

Do you have any transitional diamonds? Those are tough to find, every single time I think I found one it turns out to be an early brilliant cut.

Excellent...when I first started looking at pawn shops I thought you had to pay the price on the tag:eek-2:...luckily one guy said "make me an offer" and I
figured it out!

I really like the design of the mens ring with the OEC in a square bezel... for lack of a better term!

Haha I was the same. Young and innocent. :halo:
I think (not sure though) this setting is an “illusion” setting. Can anyway confirm or clarify either way?

@missy, yes it is an illusion setting. My mother had a ring illusion set, they are so charming.

Thanks Stephanie. I remember the first PS illusion setting I saw was Circe’s gorgeous ring. At least I think it was her ring. They are charming I agree.

My general rule of thumb is to offer 75%. Anything less is sort of insulting to the seller.
I know this firsthand, because I have a booth in an antique mall, and sometimes people offer 50% or something in that range. That's not respectful, if you ask me.

I love it! I was so excited when I found my old cut that I actually did pay the asking price ($325, I recall?) for a gorgeous .40ish ring. It was so filthy, though, I made them clean it twice before I could really inspect it! I think I literally skipped out the door.

There is a certain thrill to finding a great piece at a rock bottom price.
Who needs drugs? I get high on jewelry!

I am jealous of your collection! I need to learn your skills!
