This is the very first piece of jewelry I've had made (from scratch, as it were) and so I wanted to share. I had a peridot cushion that fell out of the first ring DH (then boyfriend) gave me and was thinking of resetting it in to a pendant. For my birthday last year, he got me a little mahenge spinel marquise because he knew I had been slobbering over them and love pink (he's so sweet!). I don't have specs on it, but I think it came from Swala Gem Traders and it's about 5x8 so maybe around .75 ct (??). I debated several options for it but kind of liked the way it looked with the peridot and so decided to set the two in a pendant together.

I was on a major budget for this since I am in the middle of saving up for something expensive and so went for the "simple is best" approach for it. The pendant setting (after some chopping and changing) came from a local gem show we went to and the little dangle setting came from ebay. A local jewelers added the loop to connect the two parts and set the stones for me and I like the way it came out, casual, colorful and easy to wear. The yellow gold really brings out the pretty color of the peridot better than the white gold it was in before I love the contrast of the 2 colors together.

Fresh out of the box:

And...just before it fell off my hand and under the deck  ....Luckily DH is a very relaxed guy and did not flip when this happened. A screwdriver to the deck board and 5 minutes later we were back in business..... (whew!)

Thank you Enerchi!

It was nerve wracking! I thought to myself "it's a good thing its so colorful" (because this made it very easy to find). If it had been a diamond in white gold, I might not have seen it!

I tried a neck shot- but keep taking them at night! I'll try again during the day today since I ought to have plenty of time in between paper grading. :)

Lovely combination of colors, this is quite a pendant!

Very pretty! I love the bright pink/green combo.

I definitely like your "simple is best" approach - and your pendant turned out so beautifully! The colors have similar saturation and brightness and really look great together - enjoy!

Gorgeous pendant!! And how thoughtful of your DH at the time. I like the contrast to with the yg. Also works very nicely for an alternative Christmas necklace!

That combination of colors is so beautiful! And the yellow gold is perfect. I love it!

Thanks so much guys!!!

Neck shot! (With hubs new iphone. The front facing camera on the new phone is a bit better than on mine.)

The colors work great together & shapes too. I also like the design of the bail (bale? All of a sudden i can't remember how to spell it, neither looks right). Anyway, it's Very Pretty! What a nice DH you have!

Love that combo! It reminds me of spring.

That is just beautiful! The colour combination plus yellow gold is simply perfect x

Beautiful and colorful pendant. The yellow gold is a great choice, since it works well with both colors. I love that the little ring for the spinel will allow for some extra movement. This is definitely at look at me piece. :cheeky:

Well done. Please come back with your next project, since I'm sure you are now hooked, and this won't be the last. :naughty:

Thanks again everyone! Hub is super thoughtful and sweet and I am incredibly lucky. (He always has nice taste too.) We both are pleased with how it turned out. If I could just find a glass color this saturated I'd make a bead in this color combo!

Oh for sure that's a true statement! :P I have some sphene sitting here that I got because I was fascinated by the dispersion of it. It may take a while, but I'll come up with something!

Such a lovely piece! Looks great on you, too. Congrats!

I was already loving this pendant from the first pics. But then the neck shot! It really is stunning on    Just perfect and beautiful - I love the color combo and I don't even like peridots! Very nicely done - congrats!! :appl:

It is lovely and looks amazing on you. Great job!

Really nice color combo. Hoping for neck shots!

Fantastic length and colours on you skin, bastecat!! I love it! What a gorgeous gift :appl:  :appl:

Lovely! A very Lilly Pulitzer color scheme!

I love that the setting isn't too perfect, it's really special. I love that your boyfriend got you a spinel, that's true romance!!!

LOVE IT! Those colors do look really good together, though I wouldn't have thought of the combination. And yes, imo yellow gold is often best for peridot because it can bring out a golden flash and make it look less olivey. And I love the neck shot - it looks way bigger than I expected! (Maybe you're just tiny?)

Aw- thank y'all! It's much appreciated

Hubs is happy cuz he did good! (I'll keep letting him pick stones, I think. He tends to see things in themi might not.)

Distracts- I'm average size, I guess. About a size 5/6 and under 5'6" so a little shorter than average. I think it just shows up a lot because it's bright. Well, no one could ever call my color coordination drab. There seem to be few colors I don't like :).

He did more than just good! :appl: I love the green and hot pink combo in yellow gold, which further brings out those colours. The shapes also work very well together, giving the pendant a lot of presence yet still wearable as an everyday piece. The kite set cushion flows beautifully into the longish marquise. You've just proved that one does not need to spend a fortune to own a beautiful piece of jewellery.

That looks gorgeous on you!! Love the color combo!

Beautiful stones, lovely combination and the pendant looks on you so nicely! Enjoy!
