I wanted to share with you all my latest gemstone purchase. I've avidly read all of your posts and tried to digest and apply as much as possible. I begrudgingly had to admit to myself that the ideal red spinel is financially out of reach - and will be for many many years so I realize it may not have the saturation and tone to which I would have liked, but its good enough for now. It's a 2.3 ct cushion which I am thinking about setting in platinum with 2 smaller cushions in a three stone.
Thank you to those who post regularly and advise so intelligently. Your knowledge is truly welcome and has gotten me through many a late night feeding (I have an 8 week old). image_297.jpg

Hot dang! That is quite a stone! You know of course this means we need more pics...

I have not followed your story, but it looks lovely to me!

Yep! Definitely more photos! :))

Congrats on the baby! And the nice looking spinel (and yes, more pics please!). It looks like a very nice colour and good size!

It looks lovely! More pics!!!

Very pretty! Do you have any daylight shots?

Congrats on the new baby. I know time to do things away from the new baby is at a premium but I am sure we'd all love to see additional pictures of your red spinel. Are you considering side diamonds? You only mentioned cushion side stones.

Thank you all for your kind words. And here are more pictures as requested. The first one was inside in
my kitchen which is the brightest room in the house. I did take two outside but unfortunately it's raining in the UK today ( surprise surprise) so it's hard to see what this looks like in the sun. It does go from a predominately red color to
more of a wine in certain light conditions but overall am happy with the stone.
To answer your question Chrono am thinking about two cushion diamonds as the side stones. I am using a Leon Mege spinel ring as the inspiration. I have a halo ring already so would prefer something different. I am also contemplating sending off to Single Stone to possibly do an antique style setting- and input on the design would be welcome!image_300.jpgimage_301.jpg

Thank you for the additional pictures. It's a lovely spinel and cushion diamond side stones are going to be perfect for it. I am afraid I am fresh out of setting ideas myself. I just sent off my diamond cushion to be set with 2 cushion red spinels so it'll be the exact opposite of yours. The setting is also a Leon Mege inspired 3 stone setting but with double prongs for the center stone. Which SS antique design are you considering?

I can't seem to get photos to upload properly...

It is so much easier to see the true color when your hands aren't magenta!

It looks to show red in strong light. I love the cushion cut and I think its the perfect size. No great ideas for setting, though there is so much eye candy here that you can get some great ideas. I would just suggest that you not enclose it too much in the setting as (I don't believe anyway) you don't want it to darken up any more.

Congratulations on both of your new babies!

What a beautiful spinel!! And congrats on your baby!

very pretty stone. No dark tone. Waiting to see more picture when it is set.

I am currently obsessed with 3 stone gemstone rings, all the same stone/color. Are you planning on red spinel side stones? I can't wait to see it. Love your left hand diamond ring, too. Very unique!

Nevermind-- just saw your answer to Chrono that you are looking for diamond sides. Sounds fantastic!

Hope Jereni doesn't mind me posting, but her ring is the one I can't get out of my mind. Stunning!

Thank you all for the congrats and feedback on the spinel. As this is my first "big" gemstone purchase I was anxiously waiting to see what you collectively had to say. As I do agree there are some extinction areas (am I using that term correctly?) I have reached out to Jerry Newman about tweaking the cut to hopefully improve the performance. I will definitely post pics when complete.
As a side - I'd love a three gemstone ring as well...that is also a project on my jewelry list...
