My proposal - your opinions?

Sorry, I''m already a member but had to do this under a new username for fear that my GF would happen upon this site and recognize my other username.

Anyway, here''s the plan. We have an X-mas party to go to soon. She has to work during the day, but will be getting off early that evening and coming home to get ready for the party. I have reserved a hotel room in a nice hotel that is close to where this party is going to be. We have a dog, so I am arranging someone to pick up the dog after we leave for the party. Obviously, if the dog were gone when she got home from work, she would be a little suspicious to say the least.

After the party, she''s going to think we are going home, and indeed we will be driving in that direction, but we won''t be making it all the way there. When we pull into the hotel, she''ll know something''s up, but that''s ok. The room will already be decorated prior to our arrival (by me of course). I''m thinking tons and tons of rose petals everywhere. When she walks in, she will see a picture on the bed. It will be a picture of my finger pointing to a desk drawer. Hopefully, she will surmise that there is something in that desk drawer and go over to open it. When she does, there will be another picture inside the drawer with my hand pointing to another item in the room (in which I will have hidden yet another picture). There will be a series of these pictures that she''ll have to find. The final picture will be placed in the bag of the B&M store that I bought her setting at. It will be a picture of the ring box sitting in my open palm. When she turns around, there I will be standing with the box in hand.

I wanted to propose this way because she is pretty much going to know what is going on as soon as we stop at the hotel. This proposal has been a LONG time coming. That way, even though she knows what is coming, I can draw it out a little longer and create some suspense. I think she''ll have fun with it.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys/gals. In my job I have to do a lot of creative things, so she expected the proposal to be something different. While I''m sure this has probably been done is some shape or form before (hasn''t everything?), it was one of the few things I could think of that would throw her off guard a bit.

Since we have been together for seven years, and done some ring shopping recently, it''s not going to come as a total surprise to her. But I could be wrong. She has absolutely no idea I have already bought a ring. She hasn''t even seen the ring I bought as it wasn''t one we saw during our many excursions. Hopefully she''ll like it. I wish I had a digi cam so I could post a pick. It''s a one carat round set in a plat. band with about 1/2 carat of pave diamonds in it. I have no idea who makes the setting as it has no brand inscribed on the inside. It was bought at Bailey Banks & Biddle, so maybe it''s just one of their generics. It pops like all get out, so I am happy with it, and she''ll be happy with the name.

I hope to get my hands on a camera so I can post pics.

an even better idea would be if she had no clue .... the SURPRISE element is very important (in my humble opinion).

you could plan something with your girlfriend''s friend.
i.e. have your girlfriend''s friend call her on her cell phone as you are driving home -- and the friend will tell your girlfriend that she needs some help at the hotel room !!!

and then your girlfriend will be totally unexpecting the event.

Thanks for the idea defcon! Problem is, her girlfriend wouldn''t have a very good reason to be in a hotel in Tampa, seeing as she lives very close to the actual hotel. That, and my gf will be wanting to get home right after the party to take the dog out. That one might backfire on me. I think the surprise will still be an element, as the hotel is on our way home, so she won''t be expecting anything until we actually pull into the drive. Even then, she still may think I''m just doing something nice for the two of us. We''ll see. Thank you again for the suggestion.
