I got camera happy and managed some shots of a few of my colored gemstone pieces.

The rubies are up first. I want them all reset as their settings are crude and out of date.

Here are the earrings: (The diamonds are dark and really lifeless... flat out ugly honestly).

The matching pendant:

''matching'' ring'' :

Really tortured design IMO. *shudder*

Those are matched in color they are all pinky-purplish.

This one is BRIGHT Pink and not from that set. I''m not even sure it really is a ruby. The setting is a very flimsy 24K one. I was given it as a child and felt very fancy with it on. I think the stone is about 6 mm round. And it has a very high crown and small table. It''s native cut as the bottoms rounded. Here''s a SUPER close up of it. The culet is rounded and very rough to the touch... which is why I think that the stone looks so included. I don''t think that it really is though.

Not so magnified and on my hand...

Now my turqouise ring. Persian Blue Turqouise. Love the stone. Hate the setting. Lightweight for it''s appearance, poorly made and the melee are all mismatched... some from G-K color. Would love to re-set this in a setting that really shows it off. Maybe in a three stone.

On the hand... it''s quite large.

Garnet time:

11 x 11 concave cut.

It looks darker than it is IRL. But here it on next to my e-ring.

And finally my trio of danburites from Richard Sherwood. They are really lovely-- I don''t think the pics do them justice as they were all smudged cause we kept dropping them.

Thanks for sharing Gypsy! I love the color of the rubies. The settings aren''t my taste either but I bet they would look beautiful reset in WG!

I''ve been toying with a couple of ideas for the rubies... this is one ... although a more refined and less millgrained version of this band-- no milgrain, just bezels around the colored stones and the pave would be more delicate and the outside scallop of the setting would be clean and thin.

I''ll most likely do something like this though.

A set: Necklace:

Earrings similar to these:

Only shorter.

Or these:

And use the two rubies the the ugly ring-- one as a pendant enhancer, and the other as a center stone for a ring.

I think I want to reset my turquise with brilliant cut half moons or step cut traps.

Gypsy, I really like the idea you have of putting your rubies into that band! Your gem collection is fantastic

Beautiful collection. At first I wondered why you wanted to reset then because I liked the original design. Then as I scrolled down and saw your ideas, my jaws dropped. I love the new ring, earring and necklaces designs.

I''ve had them looked at, and despite the color (they are no where NEAR top color rubies) they are quite nice quality apparently so I want them set to show them off. And away from the hunks of carbon masquerading as diamonds at the moment (the one in the center of the pendant is just horrific). The gold they are set in is really heavy and somewhere between 18 and 22K which I would actually like to have melted down into a simple hammmered design if possible. If not... I want it used to fix some VERY bad repair work I had done to my 22K heavy necklace, bracelet and earrings set.

yes, definitely rescue those beautiful rubies from those settings. That''s a special pet peeve of mine, beautiful colored gemstones in settings with small crappy diamonds in them. I like the idea of settings of solid metal to show off the stones.

I love all the ideas for your ruby reset!!! The band, the earrings, and the necklace!

Beautiful collection! I love the bezel ideas you have for resetting them, I think it would be gorgeous with colored stones.

Gypsy, I love the color of your rubies and think they would look fantastic reset! What a fun project. Can''t wait to see them when they are done!

I kinda like the rubies the way they are though.. I have always loved designs that are like grandma''s jewelry or mom''s jewelry.. I would wear them with jeans on a weekend!

I''m glad you guys like my reset ideas. It''s a long term project-- slated until after I reset my e-ring. And get my FMIL''s baguette eternity band fixed (which is out for qoutation right now), and after I reset my my mother''s diamonds from the half eternity wedding band my father (they are divorced) gave her. But it''s first in line for the colored stone projects.

1/2 eternity. Snort. It''s so fitting in the divorce context. That''s all he promised her... and that''s all he gave. Actually it should have been 1/4 eternity. LMAO. Sorry. I just found that endlessly ironic!

Could you possibly get the ruby re-cut? I actually enjoy the 24k setting on the ring, but then I''d have to see it up close to really tell.

I like the drop earrings and necklace idea for the rubies--I think the ring might be a little too large with them?

Mmmmmm gorgeous turquoise! I like the half moon idea, but something in me says "pavé....pavé!" to go with it.

The set isn''t hammered actually. It was a LONG (at underwire) 22K antique chain. Well, I wanted a to shorten the chain a little and with the extra length taken off, have a matching bracelet made.

AND I was going to have that done HERE. Well, my aunt whose husband works for Lockhead and was commisioned in Turkey says... NO don''t have it done here, Americans don''t know how to work with high carat old gold pieces and they''ll ruin it.

SO, with pressure from my mother and grandmother... I sent the chain to Turkey with her.

Well, she came back with it. 1) she had this glorious idea to make it into a ''nicer set'' for me.... so she had them take more length than I wanted off the chain to make earrings too.

(I was not apprised of any of this) and THEN left it to the jeweler to do this. Well the moron used 18K gold to sodder the pieces. And it looks AWFUL. My chain are this heavy WONDERFUL DEEP gold, and they are messed up with this bright new gold at each and at the clasps.

SO What I want to do is have them fixed. I don''t think the earrings can be put together into the chain (which is not as long as I wanted)... so I''ll keep those, but hopefully have the awful 18K covered by higher carat gold. And then I want to add the length of the bracelet back into the chain to make it a more wearable piece.

And I''m hoping that the gold from these settings is high carat enough to work with some modification to repair the damage done to these pieces.

I will snap a could of pics now... and show you them.
