My big white Western-style dress arrived last weekend (no time for pics yet), so now I''m looking into a Chinese-style dress for the reception.
I had originally wanted gold - I don''t know why, I just had this mental image of me in a gold dress. But people have started warning me that they don''t think gold would be a good color for me (I have blond hair and pinkish skin). I was planning on getting one anyway, but then while perusing the site and I found this dress. It''s just so pretty! FI''s mom said she didn''t care about the color and even suggested some similar (white with floral print) dresses.

So has anyone ordered a dress from efushop.com before? Did it fit right? I think I may take the plunge and order it soon, so that I have time to work something else out if it doesn''t come out right.

Ooooh, I love that!

I haven''t ordered anything from efushop before, but I''ve looked at them a lot for potential banquet dresses. BUT my fiance/his family feel I really should wear a traditional red one, so I won''t get to wear something like yours!

I''m trying really hard to find an interesting red one; I wish I could wear something like that - I looove the pattern of the flowers!!!

Your dress looks beautiful! I hope it works out

I was on a similar hunt. I purchased two chinese dresses that I thought was to DIE for, but neither fit me right. If you're very curvy, I would suggest purchasing a dress that is made to your specific measurements. I think the website you referenced, will do that. It's been a long time since I visited that site, but if I remember right... Anyway, the dresses I bought were a specific size and although it fit in other places, the bust area was WAY too small and the hip area didn't fit very well either. The asian women I know are not as curvy as I am (I used to be like a stick, but guess my American genes eventually took over that part. I'm sure the weight I gained a while back didn't help either. I lost most of it everywhere but my behind and my chest.) and that's the body shape they usually make the dresses for.

Oooh, that is a good point aphis! The only cheongsams I tried on so far were either a) wayyyy too big in the waist & chest, or b) wayyy too tight in the hips so I couldn''t move. And I swear my hips aren''t that big!!!

But I am definitely curvier than your average Asian so I should probably get my dress made to size too....

If efushop won''t do it (but I also think I remember that they will), just order the larger size and have it taken in by a local seamstress. It shouldn''t cost very much b/c it should be a pretty simple adjustment.

They will custom make them to your measurements, so I think it should at least be fairly close (if I measure myself correctly).
If this one comes out right, then I will be seriously tempted to buy a second one in red or gold for the banquet/rehearsal dinner.

I love that dress! The floral pattern is beautiful!

That''s very pretty and not typical wedding-ish, so you can probably wear it again. Lucky that your FI''s mom is ok with the color. I would have heard a hearful from my In Laws and their relatives if I did that (they are so traditional), and I probably would had to persuade my mom too but she is less traditional. I had the same problems with the premade qipao too; I think only perfect body fits in those.

Wow! That dress is very pretty!

that''s beautiful saturn! i think it would go great with your coloring too. with these close fitted dresses, you def want them made to fit your measurements. a beautiful dress can be completely ruined if it doesn''t fit right.

I have heard some good reviews from girls who got their dresses thru that ebay seller, I hope yours turns out!! I love it!!

The ONLY thing is I would show a pic of the dress to FMIL before buying it - white is the color for death in chinese culture, so even though she said she doesn''t care what color it is, she might care if it is too white...

Good point, Flopkins. I emailed the picture to FMIL, and she said she liked it. I know that white is taboo in Chinese culture (which is why I wanted gold), but SHE was the one who started suggesting it.

I guess at this point, I''m most concerned about the other relatives. I mean, I don''t want to offend FI''s grandmother. On one hand, I think that I''m more likely to get the benefit of the doubt, since I''m white and so no one really expects me to know that much about Chinese traditions. And I think that FMIL is just impressed that I''m making any sort of effort. But on the other hand, since the whole point is to honor FI''s culture it seems kind of pointless to choose a color that would do the opposite.

I don''t know..... Now I''m starting to second guess myself. Maybe I should just get a red one to wear for the banquet and skip the idea of wearing a Chinese dress for the reception. Or maybe if I do a red dress for the banquet, then I could get away with the white one for the reception

. Ugh. What''s a poor clueless white girl to do

I was apprehensive about a white dress for the same reason and fell in love with a red wedding gown, but my mother stated that because I'm not full blooded Chinese, she's would rather I wear white. She said that I needed to incorporated both of my family's cultures in my wedding and not just hers (even though I LOVE Chinese culture). She said that a dress didn't say "wedding" to her around here unless it was white. However, a cheongsam/qipao is another story, in my opinion. I believe those should be of traditional colors, even though the one you chose is beautiful. If you have her blessing with the color, I say GO FOR IT!

His family should understand that you're not an expert in their culture and probably don't know any better and that you tried your best to incorporate some of their culture.

Do you mind if I show you a picture of the one I bought (even though it doesn't fit)?

Sure Aphi - Show away!

Here it is. It''s not completely traditional, but I like it:

Aphi, I love your dress too

I like the neckline and how it doesn''t come up so high. I''m looking around for a cheongsam too. How do you know what quality the fabrics are when you buy online though? I want a nice quality and maybe even hand embroidery? I don''t know for sure yet, I''ve got a while

I have heard good reviews online for efushop. I think they are definitely reputable.
The dress is gorgeous! I love the flower pattern! Keep in mind though, white silk fabric might be a bit see through depending on how thick it is and if there is a layer underneath!
Take as many measurements as you can (not just the bust, waist, hip) and I think it will fit fine! They have page on how to measure yourself.

As for other colors, a light gold fabric would work great but really yellow gold won't look good. Red stands out a lot during the reception.
