My Upcoming Lab Diamond Project: 10.22ct G / VS1 EC lab diamond from Distinctive Gems

I've been wanting a large emerald cut diamond for a while, but earth-mined EC diamonds in the 8 - 11 ct range in near-colorless to colorless & VS1+ clarity are around 700k, possibly up to 1M. Sadly that is just way out of my budget.

I've been searching and found some 8 - 10 carat lab diamonds on rarecarat, brilliant earth, and a 7 carat on adiamor, but the problem is it is so hard to tell if they are really cut well from the videos on those sites, plus it is hard to tell if there isn't any blue nuance or brown / yellow tones to the diamond, and I hate having to go through a return process, so I've been hesitant to proceed.

I decided to contact Jonathan from Distinctive Gems to see if he could custom make me a 8.36ct lab EC. Well, he responded back to me and said he had a 10.22ct EC in stock and they were planning to ship it out today if no one purchased it! The optics of it are absolutely incredible and it is so white! Soooo I went ahead and grabbed it!

I cannot believe I'm going to own a 10.22ct emerald cut diamond ring :love:

I haven't worked with Jon yet but I only hear great things about him. I'm curious-did you ask him to look in EM comps for you?

I didn't, I honestly don't know what that question means. To see if the pricing is right?

Jon offers a concierge service where he will find diamonds for you-at least EM, not sure about MM.

I was just wondering bc I did a quick search and found a 10 ct EM I/VS for $250K. I wasn't sure if you had considered Jon's service as an option...

Oh, no I didn't consider it. That sounds like a really amazing price though for earth-mined! But even $250k would be out of my budget for one diamond (there are some other items I have on my wishlist I'm still saving up for) and I is lower in color than I would want to go. I am interested though, where did you find that diamond?
 
Here's a picture of a CZ 14mm x 10mm EC (close to the same measurements, the G / VS1 lab diamond is 14.81 x 10.15), so I'm guessing the real thing will look something like this on my hand! :kiss2:

So are you replacing the amazing 5 carat round that you purchased recently. Or will this just be an addition to the collection?
 
I have two diamonds that are over 2cts each. They now look like melee, comparatively speaking! Hahaha! Holy schnikes, what a beautiful rock!!! It’s gonna be fabulous!

I asked Jonathan to send the diamond to me to look at in person before proceeding forward with the setting, which will make it final sale. It is a very expensive diamond, so I wanted to be 100% sure I loved it, and I have learned I am very inclusion and color sensitive. Johnathan assured me it was white and you couldn't see any inclusions, but after the disastrous experience I had with Shay recently, I just wanted to see it in person so I wouldn't have to worry that I might end up unhappy with it.

Um, WOW!!! It is the most gorgeous emerald cut diamond I have EVER seen. It SPARKLES (and flashes)!! And it is HUGE!!! I can't stop looking at it! :love:

I am completely blown away. I am sending it back tomorrow and I am so sad to let it go! I wish I could wear it right now! ;(



I'm not going to wear it on this finger once it is set. This is just the only finger the temp ring fit me on.

Jonathan told me he has a twin 10.34ct G / VS1 emerald cut diamond and I've been toying with the idea of getting it and making an east-west pendant with it!

What do you guys think? Is this too large for a pendant? is it too matchy-matchy?

Not too large or matchy IMHO. They would make a stunning set.
