My vintage Christmas present

I found this forum looking for ideas for an upgrade ring for myself. We were poor and broke in college so there was no diamond for us. I was looking around ebay getting ideas when I came across a seller who specialized in estate sales. I don''t have exact details yet, but my jeweler estimated this ring to be from the 1930s. The main diamond is somewhere about 40-50 points (based on measurements) and the side stones are 2 single cut 4 point diamonds. It sits nicely with my anniversary band. Color is estimated to be about an H and clarity about VVS2. All set in 14K white gold.

I love some of the work on this ring from the beautiful prongs to even the irregular shaped head (not quite a perfect square at 5x6mm). Our tripod mounting is broken so this is the best I can get. And my hand is hurt so my fingers (size 4) are swollen and my hand is discolored. I hope you all enjoy these all the same.

Oh and someday we are going for the real upgrade (possibly holding out for an Octavia), but I decided I wanted a new kitchen first

Wow! I love this ring. My friend has a very similar ring. It was her grandmother''s. I hadn''t seen her in a while, and I never noticed this ring before, though she says she''s had it the whole time I''ve known her. I made her take it off so that I could get a closer look. She let me try it on, and I loved it!!

Glad you all like it. I was thrilled when I found it and my jeweler kept raving about how beautiful the stone was. I figured if I hated the stone I would keep the setting. I originally had a gemstone engagement ring and have had a few other types off and on throughout the years after my original stone cracked. Part of our problem with finding a ring I liked was finding a setting that I thought would work well with the anniversary band. Definitely a lucky find.

I will definitely try to get better pictures. Maybe after my son is asleep so I can try to set up something up similar to a tripod so I won''t need to rely on a flash.

For all who mentioned, my hand is feeling better. It got twisted in a bad way with bruised bones. I am just glad that the swelling has gone down some so that I can wear both together.

After my son went to bed we tried a few more. I do not have a macro for my DSLR yet but it did capture the beautiful sparkle and colors I see when I wear the ring

But we got out my husband''s camera to get a super macro shot. The lighting isn''t the best given it is pitch black out, but it shows great detail. You can see that on the one side the head goes further than the diamond. It doesn''t happen on the top or bottom which just amuses me. It''s only off by less than a half a millimeter though so not too terrible. I like little details that show how much work went into making some of these rings

I love the cut of this. No large culet and while I see hints of arrows, I still see some of the chunkier facets that I have come to love in the older cuts. Reminds me more of flower petals and that appeals to me.

Gemgirl, the seller is myantiques68 I will say that he listed it at a 1/4 carat diamond with 2 point side stones. Both my jeweler and I measured and agree that the center stone measures larger. I have a feeling he rounded down since it is between 4 & 5mm The setting also makes it hard unless under a microscope or more powerful magnification. Just like the side stones measure exactly as my 4 point diamonds do. So w/o removing the diamonds we have our estimate of 4 pointers as well as 40-50 for the main stone. I can''t say he was false in his advertising because he was pretty much dead on otherwise, just more conservative in measurements. I haven''t seen him post anything since Christmas and most of what he had before was not diamonds. Not costume jewelry but not a lot of higher end fine jewelry. Some lovely items though.

There are some amazing finds on ebay when it comes to vintage, I will admit. This one cost us so little it is almost embarrassing to say what I did "steal" it for! For $100 you''d expect near scrap, but this was pristine looking and in excellent shape.
