Well this morning I packaged up my engagement ring and mailed it off to WhiteFlash. They are going to build me an eternity wedding ring to match using ACA melee and had to have the original to model it after.

I insured the package for the full amount, and boy was mailing it offf stressful!! I kept checking and re-checking to be sure it was still in there, when I went into the house for a minute and left it in the car, had to re-check it again.

Then at the PO I went nuts packaging it up, using massive amounts of bubble wrap and tissue paper, even though I had already mummified it in the *inside* box and packaged that with more stuff.

They told me that WF should get it on Thurs/Friday, which sounds about right since my Regent to GOG took about 4 biz days. My hand feels incredibly naked and empty...I keep feeling like I left something off this morning. I can't really wear my right hand ring on the left because its about a size too big and I am afraid it will fall off. So my little poor left hand is lonely.

I've been engaged for a year and 2 months now and never has a day passed that my e-ring does not go on. Sooooo...this will be interesting. I should start a poll on how many times a day will I have a quick panic attack thinking I have left my ring somewhere when I see it's not on my hand. Hee Hee.

Just had to let the group know...feel my pain!!

Poor you

You'll have it back soon though. But I know how it is letting go of something sentimental and although I don't have an engagement ring yet I'm sure it feels weird not having it on your hand.

Mara.......no, you cannot *just borrow mine* while you wait!

hehehhehee

(kidding ... she didn't really ask!)

Oooh...

What an idea!

Oh, I feel your pain!

When I get my eternity band made it will take aprox 4 weeks, and they want me to give them my e-ring to match the fit. I can't be without my e-ring for 4 weeks for crying out loud! I would be like a momma worrying about her baby who's out of her sight.

How long will you be without your little one? A support group should be started for women who have to give up their precious for any amount of time! We can go on and share sad stories of how much we miss them!
cry.gif
and count down the days until they return.

I'm not sure how long it will be gone...but I would estimate at least 2 weeks...if not more like 3. BOO!!!!

I feel your pain! I once realized that I forgot to put on my engagement ring after I had already driven about a mile away from my home. Needless to say, I did turn the car around and go back home just to put my ring on.

Completely understand how you feel! =( I hope you get it back asap.

So, how come all of a sudden you get to have your ring made so soon! It's better than having to wait, but I thought you'd have to wait till the end of the year?

But either way, I'm happy for you you're going to be using the acutual wedding ring for your wedding. And I feel for you that you won't have your e-ring to wear for the next 3 weeks.

Well we decided a while back that we wanted to get married with the rings that we were going to keep. We just weren't sure originally if we could work it into the budget since we had just committed to buying the new house, we were unsure what sort of costs we were taking on and didn't want all our 'costs' culminating at the same time...but it turned out to more than work out fine. So I've been talking with WF for a few months now on the details. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Greg better make sure he doesn't make you mad. Your free to go to the bar posing as a single women.
wink2.gif

I do feel your pain. It's like your naked & not engaged. Maybe a quick fix of a CZ may get you through.

Hahah I thought about a CZ F&I...but I would be tempted to get something like a 2c Signity Star off eBay for $50, and then I would get used to wearing a 2c and then I'd be hammering at Greg for an upgrade the minute I got my real ring back...that wouldn't go over well with him at all.

Better to suffer with no ring for a few weeks, and be ECSTATIC to get it back....than covet a bigger ring I won't be having for a long while!
2.gif
But believe me...I am going to play up the naked finger with him...hee hee. He has been gloating for a year now that no one knows he's engaged..but obviously *I* am taken. Now it's fair play!

Wow! Step away from the 2c! Maybe you could go 1/2 carat cz & that way when your ring returns you have already upgraded!

I have a garnet ring I wear with my wedding ring when I travel. It's about the size of a half-carat diamond. When I get home, boy does my (1.65 carat) diamond look huge!

What's your birthstone, Mara? Maybe it's time for a birthstone ring.

Mara, you want to borrow my flashy topaz ring? Hee hee, it may make you want a bigger diamond though...

I have to say I totally understand your pain at losing your precious...that's what it felt like when I saw my diamond, and knew once it was temporarily set (he was brought home on 2/13/04) I wouldn't see it again until he proposed...still waiting...waiting....

At least you have HAD your precious, and maybe that's even worse...?

Awww, poor Mara!

Hey, you didn't send it overnight? When I send valuable stuff by the PO, I do it overnight and don't bother with the insurance. I've heard so many horror stories about insurance that I figure my odds are better sending it overnight so it will be handled differently and I would know exactly when it was suppose to arrive at the destination.

I asked WF about that, Hest, and they stressed USPS Registered Insured. The PO actually takes huge precautions with RI mail...they make you seal the entire thing in brown tape and stamp every corner, edge etc so that if its tampered or opened, they know. Everyone who touches the box has to sign for it, it doesn't enter anyone's hands without signage on both parties. So it's alot more secure than one may think. The only thing that yes is a little stressful is the 3-4 days...overnight would be more peace of mind. But they don't have overnight RI...so oh well!
1.gif

I asked Lesley if I should insure it for the full value, thinking that something with a large $$ value on it would draw attenttion but she pointed out that they send stuff like that all the time and also I figured my little package will not be as impressive as someone else's $40k insured package in terms of theft!
1.gif
I hope anyway. Hehee.

Glitter...my birthstone is opal. Unfortunately I don't love colored stones *just yet*..so I will just pine away for my ring in the meantime. At least I have my right-hand ring to console me in the meantime, no diamonds at all on the hands would be sad.
sad.gif

Nic...SURE..send on over that amazing topaz. You don't want it back right?

Yep, the safest way an individual can send something small & valuable. I wonder, though, wouldn't your insurance through Chubbs take care of it if the package goes missing. It covers mysterious disappearances.

Yes, I would assume so F&I, but the insurance for the package via USPS was only around $20 so I figured it would be double insured just in case.
2.gif
Extra peace of mind.

Aw, Mara, your precious will be back with you in no time! When I sent my diamond back to Barry to be set it took something like 6 days. There was a weekend and holiday in there. Barry wasn't worried but I was SO glad to hear it had arrived there safely. I also did the registered insured mail.

Did you decide to go with the slightly smaller size stones on the wedding band?

Mara,

You mentioned a right hand diamond ring? I didn't even know you had one! What does it look like?

Have you ever posted photos? A diamond is a diamond!

Patty...yes I decided to go with .02c around the ring so the width should be no more than 2.3mm I believe. Total carat weight will be something like .66ctw.

My e-ring is around 2.9mm so the size difference will be slightly noticeable which is what I wanted....so it looks like I am wearing TWO rings.

Should be a beautiful look, Mara.

Opal, eh? Want to borrow my opal ring? It has baguettes on the side and everything! What's your ring size?

Too bad we're on opposite coasts, or I really would lend it to you--it would look good on your elegant hand.

OMG, Can I borrow it? That is really beautiful.

That is a beautiful opal, I LOVE the blues!

It's okay..my little hand will just have to learn to appreciate the ring all the more while it's lonely.

Nice, isn't it? I got it at a police auction. I feel bad for whoever lost it.

Seriously, Mara, I think you should wear something with a 4 or 5 mm stone. You won't believe how big your diamond will look when you get it back.

Hehe now you guys got me thinking! Wonder what I can find on eBay that is pretty and not too pricey for a few weeks?

Well, call me crazy, I just bought a 1/3 c ( 4.45mm) diamond from ebay. I simply couldn't resist the price & the specs looked darn good. I'm in a mode where I want to accumulate some gems & design something. Just happened today - I'll keep you posted on whether a boom or bust.

I think I remember when you bought it (if you were the one). If so, did you ever find out if it was a doublet?

Yes, F&I, that was me. I never did get it appraised--the setting alone is worth what I paid for the ring--but I think it's a solid boulder opal, not a doublet. It's prong set with an open bottom; I see flecks of color on the bottom; the line along the side is wavy, not straight; and I sort of doubt someone would bother having such a nice, hand-made, heavy platinum setting made for a doublet.

Even if it's made of plastic, though--who cares? It's pretty.
