Sadly not a taaffeite...Date: 9/19/2008 1:21:15 PM

Hmm..
Stone 1, I guess purple sapphire. If it's a taaffeite, I officially hate you
Stone 2, blue apatite.
Stone 3, chrome diopside.
Stone 4, transparent labradorite.
I would have considered Andesine as labradorite.Date: 9/19/2008 1:49:13 PM

I''ll try again.
1 Violet zoisite/tanzanite
2 Apatite
3 Chrome diopside
4 Andesine (if you don''t consider it labradorite)

OK, the only one I got right off the bat was the apatite. But... although I''m too late to join the game, I figure it''s never to late to learn, so I have just a few questions for those of you who did better than just one out of four:
1) how did you know that #3 was chrome diopside rather than tsavorite?
2) BE = barium enhanced?
and to Proteus: what was the kicker for #4? My immediate thought was sunstone/labradorite. Did the ''sparkly'' in PandoraII''s description factor in?

MINIMS,
I figured it was chrome diopside because it looks a touch too yellow (tsavorite is usually more bluish) and the RI/luster looked too low.
BE stands for ''beryllium enhanced.''
#4 looked like labradorite at a glance, but Pandora said it wasn''t, so... I thought about it.
It had zoning, and the RI looked high. That rules out citrine or tourmaline (which are uncommon in that bright orange color.) Also, the cutting was fairly simple, and it was 3 carats, so I figured it wouldn''t be a natural sapphire. A 3ct natural orange sapphire would be really expensive, would probably have some flaws in it, and be cut differently. There wasn''t really anything else that it could be, aside from orange zircon, but there was no strong doubling effect... so that rules zircon out.
Hope this helps.
