Cross-post from LT! Natural gems - most untreated & precision cut! on Loupe Troop Please, please buy my stones so I can stop feeling guilty about not setting them.
Scroll all the way to the bottom for some more detailed descriptions for gems with a **; tried to keep it brief at the top. It's impossible to get flattering, straight-on photos of all the gems at once, many are showing a TILT window which isn't from poor cutting!
TOP ROW:
## Chrysoberyl $100: 1.55ct, 8x6mm, BRIGHT, silky yellow-green
## Mint green garnet $200: 1.45ct, 7.2 x 4.8mm, precision-cut**
MIDDLE ROW:
## Light pink tourmaline $100: 1.63ct, 7.8x7.8mm, precision cut OEC-like round
## Light blue-green tourmaline $100: 1.45ct, 7.1 x 7.1mm, precision cut octagonal step-cut
## Magenta tourmaline $50: 0.89ct, 7.2 x 5.19mm
## Paraiba-like blue tourmaline $400: ~0.9ct, ~7x5mm. Clean, I'd call it "neon", but don't know origin.
## Aquamarine $100: 3.88ct 9.0 x 9.0mm**
BOTTOM ROW:
## Pink-orange spinel $100: 1.88ct pear, 10.1 x 6.55mm.**
## Lavender spinel $100: 3.03ct oval 9.5 x 7.5mm. **
## Tanzanite $400: 1.70ct precision-cut heated 6.8 x 6.8mm. **
## Clear-to-light-green tourmaline $320: 2.58ct, precision cut,11.8 x 5.8mm**
## Tsavorite garnets, matched pair $750: ~10x6mm each, guessing ~5ct total **
Additional details:
# Mint green radiant garnet: Precision-cut by Jeff Happeman, internally flawless according to the cutter (and I definitely can’t see anything)
# Aquamarine: light blue precision radiant-cut Vietnamese aquamarine. A bold 9mm square! Bought from Litnon, assume heat treatment. It does have some veil inclusions which are reflected in the price, but a great example of an icy blue aquamarine for birthstone jewelry or a fun ring, with beautiful cutting, a high crown, and great symmetry. The inclusions and gorgeous cutting both help minimize the appearance of a tilt window (typical for low-RI stones like aqua).
# Pear orange-pink spinel. Does have a window, but as a trade-off, a large face-up size for 1.88ct! 10.1 x 6.55 x 4.32mm. Some non-bothersome typical spinel inclusions visible close-up. Less saturated than trade ideal with a tendency toward mauve in some lights, but does glow under UV light and packs a pretty good impact for a budget stone! I'm no jeweler, but with those dimensions it SHOULD fit a prong-style 10x7mm calibrated mount. There are some pretty fun options out there for you to put together a dramatic ring safe for every-day wear for less than $500, just sayin'.
# Lavender spinel: It does have some clear/white inclusions and a window, but the bright and open color, and pretty pink and blue flashes, really distract from the stone's blemishes! I just never got around to getting it recut... and I have way too many projects in the works.
# Tanzanite: 1.70ct precision-cut heat-only blue-violet tanzanite. I know heating is supposed to kill the green and purple, but I swear I see green and purple flashes in there! The color is a beautiful blue with violet tones, not at all dark. 6.8 x 6.8mm, 1.70ct. Bought directly from the knowledgeable Bill Vance at Vance Gems. Would look stunning in rose gold...
# Tourmaline: 2.58ct emerald-shape precision-cut green/clear bicolor (though the clear doesn't show up very much) tourmaline. Cut by Grey Weaver, bought from the lovely Dana at Mastercut Gems. Neon grass-green color though from the side you can see it's actually got one end that's perfectly clear! A few light veils which show up way worse in my photos than in person. Assertive size for a ring at 11.8 x 5.8mm!
# Tsavorite pair: This is embarrassing, but I can’t find any info about these in my spreadsheet. I will weigh & measure when I get a chance; I’ve put estimates in the listing! One stone has a fairly long feather that is minimally visible from the front, and was considered by the cutter not to be a threat to structural integrity when worn (any more than tsavorite should be a gentle-wear stone), but extra care should be taken in setting -- nothing that a skilled jeweler can’t handle.
