Hi lovely Pricescope people… hoping for some people’s opinions please.

I am considering buying a vintage ring where the seller is saying it’s a created ruby. But every time I look at it my gut says otherwise.
what say you?
I know it’s just one picture but if you had to make a call - what would you put your money on.
Only other details supplied at that it’s vintage and 22kt gold with no markings - seller apparently used an acid test.
Price wise …. It’s priced well if it’s real gold wether the stone is created or not.
I know the odds of buying a created ruby and it turning out to be a natural ruby are astronomical which is why I keep not buying it. It’s very flawed for a created ruby? - Thoughts please as I respect the opinions of people in this forum .

Thanks so much

Even if that is a real ruby I won’t buy it. The color is not by any standard “gem quality” in the picture. The color is dull and brown and the inside is too transparent.
If that is synthetic you should expect it to look the same or even nicer than the real one )I believe that the only purpose why people invent synthetic gemstones). Under this logic why even bother to spent money on something you expect it to be synthetic that does not even look nice?

Because the ring is really pretty and the price isn’t high.

I mean no offence - but I didn’t ask if it was ugly. I asked if you thought it was natural or created.

Lab created are usually very “clean” so it could be natural or it could just be dirty on the underneath side.
if it is 22k gold then I’d take a punt. You like the ring and the price is fair why not.
some sellers just say it’s lab created because they don’t know for sure and they are not inclined to have it tested. Easier just to say it’s lab and then the buyer won’t fuss.
their laziness could be your gain!

Thanks Bron357.
The seller is in Australia and has asked me to make an offer. It’s listed at just under $800.
I know it’s far from perfect but it has its charm. 6E373707-C217-43FE-8351-D793024B8B5C.png

Whats the weight? For $800 AUD you’d want it weighing 10 / 11 grams.
As long as it’s around 8 grams, I’d offer $625 and see what they counter with. Hopefully you can get it for $700 or less.
Is there a return possibility? If yes, you don’t have much to lose, except shipping costs.
Even if it is lab, it’s still a lovely ring. Obviously it would be totally fabulous if it were natural.

22K gold more likely comes with synthetic stones. It is popular in middle eastern countries. Because it is softer than 18K and the stone is not as secure as 18K or platinum. Jewelers are less likely to use precious stones on 22K because they could fall off.
If you google 22K ruby,90% you find on internet is synthetic or glass filled ruby.
Also you need to make sure if that 22K gold filled or pure 22K. 22K gold filled jewelry is also popular and commonly seen with synthetic gems. You mentioned the seller did an acid testing and there is no marking, that is just the surface part of the gold but you have no evidence that is solid gold for the entire ring. They should go through that special machine to test if it is solid gold and apparently they did not.

I like the setting! But my guess is a lab stone.

Look at what else they sell. Does it seem like a quick-flip pawn shop? Or do they sell other things where they distinguish genuine from synthetic? Context is everything here. Those photos look like someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks Bron357.
