Well, for those of you who read my post asking if a clear ruby is a sythetic ruby, thanks for chiming in! I took it to a jeweler today to ask if it was real, he took a look through his loupe and said.... yes! He said for the 100 percent stamp of approval it needs to go to the lab, which I can schedule, and I will, but he had all the confidence the this ruby was indeed genuine. I was so happy, and some of you will say, wait for the lab, but right now, I''m just going to be happy with the fact that odds are I found a nice clean ruby that is apparently real. He said you don''t see inclusions of that kind in a synthetic, also, the unusual cut is another clue, synthetics are not cut like that. The color was another clue, if you are going to make a synthetic ruby, you are going to make it red, not dark mauvey red with purple undertones. Sounded good to me!

He gave me some other info, and if you saw the pics in the other thread, apparently that setting is called a ballerina setting, he said it was quite pretty, which made me feel good because I do not like yellow gold and was thinking if was real, I would have it remounted.

He said it was plumb gold. I have no idea what that means.

He said the diamonds were excellent, I maybe J color. I thought K becuase of the yellow gold adding to their color.

When I told him what I payed he just stared at me and blink. I think he really was speechless. When he told me what I SHOULD have payed, I was the one who was staring and blinking. It was a small, very small fraction of the number he gave to me. It was just an antique store find in my mind. He wanted to know exactly where I found it so he can make a trip! It was only five minutes away! Anyway, so now I just have to figure out what to do. I don''t like yellow gold, so I may reset it. The diamonds are so nice on this setting though, I would then have to figure out what to do with the setting. The dilemma!

Yay!

I love those ''amazing find'' moments where you have to keep pinching yourself to make sure it''s real and not some daydream!

You sure hit the jackpot girl!

Oh wow, it''s always good to find a beautiful bargin! Have you posted photos yet?

thanks! yep, here are the pics, in this thread, along with the story. it is prettier than the pic, it is so sparkely, but still, im not a yellow gold fan, so im not sure what im going to do with it yet. the jeweler said wear it and love it, but im not so sure. i thought of putting a citron in there and pulling the ruby for a micro pave in white gold. i think that would be neat, but then again, i might feel bad about disassembling a vintage peice. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ruby-clarity-does-clean-synthetic.77316/

kewl :}
congrates

Well done - it sounds like you found quite the treasure!

Since you love everything about the ring except for the color, have you considered just having it rhodium plated? It''s an easy way to correct the issue ....

i didn''t know you could do that! i wonder why my jeweler didnt tell me about that when i was there. he just said i could do a custom mount if i wanted to, but he suggested not to. guess ill look that up and see what''s involved, thanks!

I guess it could be seen as a "cheap fix" of sorts: I don''t know if I''d suggest it with something that was going to be worn day in, day out, like an e-ring or a wedding band. But for a ring that won''t necessarily be getting that much wear? No problem! You might have to periodically replate it, just as you would with a regular white gold ring (and possibly somewhat more frequently, because of the yellow gold being more likely to "shine through"), but I wouldn''t imagine having to do it more than once or twice a year, given typical body chemistry. And at 20 bucks or thereabout a pop, it''s still considerably cheaper than having the entire ring remade, even amortized over a period of, say, 20 years ....

WOW, how fantstic that it''s natural! I love the ring even in YG. GREAT find!

thanks! yea, the yellow gold is actually growing on me at this point. i guess im just staring to appreciate it for the antique it is, and im starting to think i should not try to change it. thinking as how it made some woman very happy once, makes me kind of soft on tearing it apart or changing it!
