Hello everybody!

I''ve mostly been doing engagement ring shopping but that''s coming to a close (bought the diamond and the custom ring is in progress!)

Now that the stress from THAT whole agenda is easing up, I started checking out other jewelry. I really like orange (citrine?) and green (peridot?).

I''m planning on proposing on a formal occasion. I know my girlfriend will be wearing a simple black dress. What I''d like is to present her with a simple wood box with a simple, beautiful gemstone pendant...something teardrop shaped maybe, but I''d like the stone to be the biggest part. I''d like the earrings to be similar. Later that night, I''ll pop the question. It''ll be fun to keep her in suspense too, since I know she''s expecting the ring and I''ll put the earrings in a box that looks like a ring box

I don''t want to spend a whole lot on everything, maybe $100 total between a pendant and the earrings, and maybe a bracelet. I''ve been checking out eBay but I don''t know too much about the various gemstones, other than their colors. My question is what kinds of gemstones should I be looking at? Any recommendations on good internet vendors?

Some neat looking citrine pendants & earrings there. Hope it helps!

Eeep...if the pendant and earrings will be set in gold, and the pendant will be on a gold chain, I think you''ll have trouble keeping this under/at about $100. Gold prices are pretty high right now.

That said, citrine and peridot are both good budget choices. I was at a party this weekend wearing a garnet necklace I had made (wire wrapped briolettes on a chain). When some of my friends admired it, I told them, "Hey...I could make you one, too! What color would you want?" They all asked for yellow or blue stones - two of them asked for citrine by name. Nobody wanted peridot or asked for anything green.
