Need advice for different engagement ring

I currently have a 3 Ct VS1 M diamond engagement ring (wedding upgrade gift from husband, I love the slightly yellow diamonds vs D/E).

Although it’s been fun wearing it, I haven’t been able to wear my engagement ring as often as I’d like (too flashy, diamond is too big, inappropriate setting, etc).

I’m turning 40 this year and would like a diamond ring that is more classic and mature with a main 2ct-2.5 Ct diamond.

Any thoughts of design?

I think that we need more information. Are you trading up with the same jeweler or starting over? What kind of budget do you have? And what kind of settings do you like?

For MRBs, a 2.5 is about 8.7-8.8mm. A 3 is about 9.2-9.3mm. That’s only a .5mm difference in spread. Will that be enough difference in terms of appropriateness/flash? Or maybe you’re thinking a simple setting will tone down the overall look? Like a 2.5ct antique cushion in a simple gold setting?

Are you asking about ring design or size of stone? Or both? I can't really tell from your post.
