I'm looking at an 8 carat pear shaped diamond. D, VVS2, type IIA. Is there really a premium for type IIA? Also, what would be a good price for one?

Do you have the grading report number? If you don't want to post it, then you can attach a screenshot of the report with the report number covered/blocked out.

Pictures and video would also be a huge help with assessing it, if have them.

Type IIa *could* very well carry a premium since they are the most chemically pure and amongst the rarest diamond sub-type occurring naturally.

See if StoneAlgo.com has any info about it:

Type II is an advantage if reselling as in high color high clarity the type II adds some prestige - often with no other visual benefits.
However type II often occur brown and are treated to make them whiter - and if the lab mis identifies and does not detect the treatment today - and in years to come it is identified - then you have done your dough!
