I just came back from a jeweler. I need advice on the diamond I saw. Here are the specs. What does everyone think? Is it a good diamond?

Round Brilliant

Measurements: 7.83 - 7.89 x 4.77 mm

Carat Weight: 1.80 carat

Color Grade: H

Clarity Grade: VS2

Cut Grade: Excellent

Proportions:

Depth: 60.7%

Table: 57%

Crown Angle: 33.0°

Crown Height: 14.0%

Pavilion Angle: 40.8°

Pavilion Depth: 43.0%

Star length: 50%

Lower Half: 80%

Girdle: Medium

Thanks in advance!

It looks very nice by the numbers, to make sure it appeals to you in the everyday lighting it will be worn in, ask if you can view it away from the jewellery store lights and give it a good test drive if you can! Good size!

Thanks Lorelei for the comment!

Does anyone else have any other opinions?

Also, I don''t mind paying the market price for the diamond but I don''t want to get ripped off either. Any thoughts on possible value for this stone?

Doing a pricescope on the diamond, using the above tool. There is nothing in cut quality search with ur exact same specs, but a JA 1.76c H SI1 is priced at $12190, so online price is probably ard 13-14k. For a Brick store stone, probably another 10-15% is the norm.

Its hard to be exact, online pricing is generally less than brick and mortar jewellers and many factors can affect pricing - how much are they asking for the diamond? There could be a price jump at hitting 1.8 cts, It would help if you could give an idea of asking price in order to give any realistic advice. If you want to get an expert opinion on price and your purchase, you could make the sale final ( and get it in writing) on the diamond checking out with an independant appraiser, an appraiser could give you an opinion on the purchase price on request as well as detailed info on the diamond. Here is a tool you can use to find an independant appraiser in your area,

And you are most welcome, I am very glad to be of help to you!

The jeweler is asking 15K. It is a beautiful stone with plenty of fire.

The price looks ok, I just had a look at online prices H VS2 with GIA reports, these are in the region of 13- 15k so the price looks about right for a brick and mortar store.

I am going back to the jeweler tomorrow. So this is a well cut stone and should get it?

If you love this diamond, then it could be the one for you!!!

We went back to the jeweler and he would not budge on the price. 15k for the diamond and about another 1k for the setting. So about total 16k. The setting will be platinum with tapered baguettes. We live in NYC. Do you think we can get a better price somewhere yet. We are just very nervous about this.

No harm at all in shopping around if he won''t budge on price, then if you find the price is reasonable you can go from there.

Who graded this stone?

GIA
