So...my ring is set to go into production next week and be done by the end of the week! Yay! There is one detail though that I''m not 100% sure/comfortable on and I''d like your opinions. All the prongs on my ring are being done in claws. I adore these on my center stone but am wondering if they cover up too much stone on the side stones and may lead to the stone looking pearish from the martini prong. My inspiration ring had little round prongs that I think IRL you would never see. Erica thinks the claw prongs would be the same way and IRL I won''t even notice they are there. I will first show 2 cads of my ring to show how they will look as is and then one of my inspiration ring to show the rounded prongs.

I think you will be ok with the prongs as is. The angle of view in the inspiration pic is straight down while that angle in the cads are all 3/4 view, or at least from some side. In the straight down vie you notice that the body of the prong comes up alnong the side of the stone and then the point only gets folded over? The same will happen in your ring I think but you dont see it in the cads at this angle. But look carefully in the cads how the prong body comes up on the outside of the basket. From this angle it looks huge at the top because you are seeing from the side both the top of the prong body and the folded point. only the point will be over the stone.
Oh yeah, and it looks really great, I cant wait to see it!

I don''t think that claw prongs instead of rounded ones will make the sidestones seem pear shaped; I think it just comes with the territory of a martini setting. However, in your CAD''s, the sidestones definitely seem round to me and not pear-ish at all.

I think IRL you''ll like them just fine. Your ring is going to be lovely.

I am a Harry Winston fan, and have been in several of his stores. This is the prong style he uses, and I think it leaves the stone more open. I got to hold 4.25 carat natural fancy deep grayish violet VS1 radiant cut diamond ring (5.6 million dollars) in Hawaii. It had the very prongs you are using, as did it''s trapezoid side stones. I really think they allow more of the stone to show.

I think that the prongs in the CADS are too angular for the setting and I agree that if they stay that way (and it''s not just the CAD adding bulk) then they will reduce the look of the roundness of the side stones.

For me, the ring either needs to be all sharp claws or all rounded claws and as the stones are round, that would be my choice.

Thanks for the replies. I think I''m going to leave the claws as is.

LD-I was told that the CAD''s were more bulky than the finished product would be and that the prongs would be barely noticeable IRL.

I think this is more of a mindclean issue - you probably won''t notice them and really they will be irrelevant to everyone but you... so do what you *want* and you need to reason for it other than that you want it :)

i like as is:-) it''s going to be gorgeous:-)

Like LD mentioned, I definitely agree with sticking to one shape for all of the prongs, including center stone.

Thanks all. I did decide on single claws all around.

So I have been seeing the ring in your avatar since yesterday and looking to see if I missed your thread showing it off! And I can''t find it!

Did you get it yet? Are there pictures somewhere? It looks stunning in that picture!

No thread on it yet! We will get it on Saturday but I have decided not to see it until he proposes. That should happen within a month so there won''t be too much of a wait! I have gotten pics from JbEG and I love it so much! I can''t wait to share it! Thank you for the compliment!
