Hey all,

SO i did go return the diamonds @ Costco.. So here are my requirements: Right now I already own a set of Diamond studs (my parents bought for me) and they are total of .57 carats (about .3 each).. which are kinda small for me.. and when I tried the .5 carat each earring studs they didn''t seem much bigger than the ones that I already have.. (not sure if this has to do w/ the cut or color). So now i''m thinking about getting a bit larger than .5carat each.. so how about 0.65 - 0.75 carat each? Will I be able to go to any jewelery store and try on diamond ear rings to find out which one suits me best? I want something for daily wear.. and nothing too big. I prefer good color D - F and also minimum of VS2.. and my price limit is $4000 for the pair. Hope all you diamond experts can help me!

Sandhya.

maybe it is tyme to insert some "earryings buying tutorial" on pricescope... How can there be two such simmilar inquiries in the same time ?

Take a look at this thread !

I would ask why D-F, VS2 in the first place esp. that you want bigger size, but this is my 0.2 not your $$$ after all

I would not really save on cut here since the earrings, I supose, are likely to show off their sparkle and size first and color & clarity mostly in the jewelry box.

I would first up read through the search archives for similar information, we always get these types of questions on earrings.

Also I wouldn't waste your money on D-F and VS2. Sorry but that's my blunt opinion. I have G VS earrings and they look lovely, but to get a better cut stone (which does make a difference in how big the size looks--has nothing to do with color) I would have gone to I SI if I had to. They are on your HEAD...no one cares if they are colorless. As for clarity, as long as it's an eye clean SI, no one can see that either. You can tell them they are Flawless and they'd probably believe you.

That said I'd go for something like a G/H SI in order to maximize your budget and get that size you want. The G/H will face up super white as long as the stone is well cut, and SI will be eye clean as long as you do your homework...so you're set. Plus you'd come in under budget and get a sweet pair of earrings.

Lastly, you mention the size, I'm surprised you didn't think that .50c each is that big, I have 1ctw and they are pretty well-cut and they look substantial to me (when I have my hair up). I wanted bigger ones originally but now I think that we may have gotten a good size. Bigger I don't know that I would want to deal with for daily wear, possibly too gaudy. For evenings out, yeah definitely bigger, but not for daily. I would go into a few B&M stores and try some on. Write down their DIAMETERS...not their carat weight, because once you find the diameter size that you like, we can find a corresponding carat weight. I say also don't write down ctw because if the diamonds are not well cut, e.g. say they are carrying some extra weight in the girdle or pavilion, the diameter of the stone takes a hit. So you can say...well I tried on these .75c each earrings and they were perfect, but the diameter may be for a well-cut .60c stone..in which case if you then buy the well-cut .75c stones online, the stones will arrive looking much bigger than you liked in the store. Not always a bad thing, but better to write down diameters and find corresponding excellently cut stones for earrings to match what you liked.

I will see what I can find out there and post results here.
