Diamond 1. AGS 000 .83 round H VS2. HCA cut advisor score 0.9. AGA/NAJA score 1A. AGS report # 104065954010

Diamond 2. GIA .90 H VS2 Excellent cut. Polish very good. Symmetry Excellent. HCA cut advisor score 2.8. AJA/NAJA score 1A. GIA report # 6137395004

Diamond 1 was chipped while being set. Company is proposing to exchange it with diamond 2. Just need to know if I should do this. Should I be concerned with diamond 2's bad HCA score (2.8)?

Need an experts opinion. Thank you guys.

I would personally want an AGS000, since you probably paid for that.

Me too, i guess they're giving you a slightly bigger diamond in exchange. It may (or may not) be a fair exchange, but i'd probably still want an AGS000

OP - I re-ran Diamond #2 on the HCA tool and got 2.8 Total with Very Goods in all 4 categories. I also ran it for the AGA/NAJA Cut Class Tool and got a 1B Total Grade, with 1Bs in Table, Crown Angle, and Pavilion Depth (and 1As in the rest of the categories). Between the 35/41 angle combo and GIA rounding, there is a possibility Diamond #2 is a steep/deep - will the vendor get an IdealScope image for you? If not, I would hold out for a like replacement stone with AGS Triple O grading.

If I paid for an AGS000, I would want an AGS000 replacement.

Thx everyone. I love this forum. Yes u are right. 1b is the grade. What exactly is a 1b and how does the grading system go exactly?

Here's a link to the grading chart: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-grading-chart-round

1A is the best on the AGA chart - and most AGS Triple O stones will be 1A stones - that said, a 1B stone is likely better-cut than the majority of diamonds you see for sale in mall jewelry stores - and it is possible the performance of a very well-cut 1B is indistinguishable to your eyes to that of a 1A. We have no way of knowing the performance of Diamond #2 without an IdealScope or Aset or Sarin so it is unclear whether it is well-cut or not.

But the crux is, you selected and paid for a top of the line, ideal cut, AGS O, 1A stone - and what your jeweler is proposing as a replacement is not as good as what you had. He should have access to AGS O stones with similar color/clarity/carat weight/mm dimensions as the one he chipped, and that is what he should be bringing in and offer as replacement (in my opinion).

may i ask what is a steep deep is?

yes your right ideally the jeweler who chipped the stone should be able to replace with a similiar stone but to make matters more complicated I got the stone from Diamond Ideals in NY and had it sent to a jeweler friend of my girlfriend and it was his group who chipped it. So ow that I know that the jeweler friend can not replace with a similiar stone I am getting a full refund and plan on finding something through whiteflash.

any other recommendations?

also what is a august vintage?

is H color ok in a less .80 -1.0 round AGS 000?

I think H colour represents great value. Very hard to distinguish for the average person between an H and a G.

steep-deep: Pricescope term for a diamond that has a steep crown angle and also a deep pavilion. A bad combination that faces up small for its carat weight and has less than stellar light performance, and may have other drawbacks. August Vintage is Good Old Gold's proprietary line of modern round and cushion shape diamonds that are cut with a chunky facet pattern very similar to old antique diamonds of Old European Cut and Old Mind Cut. But they are designed to have ideal light performance and ideal symmetry. Antique look but modern performance.

Use the "search" when people use terms you don't understand.

There is nothing wrong with a GIA graded stone. But I would only consider one as a replacement if it has an HCA score of under 2.0. Over that will result in a stone that is not as well cut as the one you had. Polish and symmetry should be excellent as well. If I were you, I would order an idealscope very quickly and be sure any stone they offer you (with the parameters mentioned) is subject to your approval after viewing with the idealscope.
