Need halo design help for my mom’s Emerald Cut

Hi All, my mom has a really big birthday is around the corner and I want to surprise her by resetting her 4.7 ct emerald cut. I need the ring by February at the latest so I’m hoping to come up with a design that does not require an custom cuts. My mom does love the style of my anniversary ring, so I’m using that as a starting point. I’ve attached an pic of the stone it’s in current setting. The face is 12.2 x 7.5 mm. Suggestions appreciated:)

ETA: The stone was sold to my mom as a J color, but I think it's really a K color. Mom's jeweler used I color trillions and the color disparity has always bugged me. The trillions will not be reused in the new setting.

I actually like the way the second one still has the emerald cuts, but the rounds in the corner break things up a bit and give something fresh to the look of the halo. Her diamond is a generous size, and doesn't really need the halo to look even larger, so the second one gives a wonderful cocktail look while still having that understated elegance only the emerald cut can provide.

I like the second one too but probably because I like the prongs better than the thick bezel on the first. I'm curious - how is this a surprise? Haha like she won't notice she isn't wearing it? It also such a big size that I would be tempted to do a classic change of side stones like traps or baguettes...

My mom rarely wears big jewelry these days-not a lot of parties for her to go to especially in the Covid age. The reset is more of a gesture. She's been talking about a new setting since she saw my oec setting.

She's always dreamed of a 10 carat-which is not within the realm of possibility-so I need to find a setting that increases the finger coverage as much as tastefully possible.

Thank you! LOVE the first one. The 2nd one is pretty but overall effect isn't different enough from the traps to me.

The first pic has me thinking about tab prongs. I love how the tab prongs would give more of the bezel look without the full bezel commitment.
 
I like the second one. Unique and interesting without being far out there. Someone did a setting like your first one with an asscher
I believe and ended up not caring for it for some reason. Cant remember why. I'll have to see if I can find the thread for you.
 
@tyty333 @Mreader It was me! I didn’t love it with the diamond..but I love it with the lab pink sapphire. It’s one of my favorites now. The reason I didn’t care for it with the diamond was because the diamond is an antique. The puffy crown and cut just didn’t go well with the baguette cuts. The pink sapphire is a modern emerald cut. I couldn’t find someone to cut one to fit..David Klass did his magic and cut one for me..I love it now!
 
Are you dead set on a halo? I think EC cuts look amazing with a suite of French cuts down the shoulders…..
 
I love the first one, but I wouldn’t do the diamond bezel set, probably prong set.

Hi @caolsen. Yes, increasing the finger coverage is imperative (tastefully). Also, due to timeframe, I don’t have time for a custom cut suite.

I just got the cads and I’m so excited! I kept the gallery very streamlined so that the ring isn’t too heavy for my mom.

Not sure yet. But probably will repurpose the trillions?
