One of these days I’d like to reset my aquamarine. I’m not necessarily a halo gal (lifestyle way too casual), but am thinking it might be right for my aqua. I’m enamoured with the tiny halo look (see inspiration pic) but am considering a plain shank.

I’d love to see pics of your plain shanked halo rings. I’m also interested in your thoughts about the look as a whole when you wear it. Does it feel more casual to you? Are you pleased with the plain shank look?

Thanks!

So excited for you! Do you have jewellers in your neighbourhood, so you can actually try the halo look in real life? I thought I wasn’t a halo girl and now I have two from Victor Canera. My blue topaz halo ring has a plain shank. I love the look as it indeed adds a more casual flavour. As the topaz is rather big, I however see the center stone with halo mostly when I wear it.
The shank could have been a bit bigger/wider, but I love the refined look

Your topaz halo ring is beautiful! That’s pretty much the look I was considering, though my stone is 7x5 so I will see the shank when viewing from the top.

I tried on a few halo rings while at a gem show a few months ago. I was surprised I liked them on me as much as I did. Not all of them were my style, but certain ones, which is why I’m considering a tiny halo.

You are always so helpful. Thank you!

My halo is on a round, but I love how it is more of a decorative frame than a border.

Do you have pics of your aqua? How is it set now?

Here are a few of mine with plain shanks and big and small halos. I find myself wearing the tiny halo ones more when I want to accessorise for work but not be eye catching with too much bling. 20171001_105848.jpg IMG-20170924-WA0010.jpg

Hope that helps :)

You have confirmed I need to make sure I stick to a tiny halo and not allow myself to get lured in with the beauty of larger halos. I particularly like your red stoned ring (maybe because it’s kind of the shape of my aqua). I like the “Y” look in that one too.

Yes...... I do..... It kind of didn’t turn out as I had hoped when I had it made many years ago.... ;( I’ve tried to like it, and I do-ish, but I don’t love it. I do, however, love the stone itself.

What a gorgeous blue!!!
I actually like the setting. But you are so right to reset if you do not wear it because you do not love it.

Do you? Do you really like it? My family all seems to like it too.....

I actually do wear it because I love the blue so much.

I love your aqua! That blue is really intense!
This is my hello sapphire ring with a plain YG shank. Usually, I’m all about the bling everywhere, but I think in some cases it’s best to let the head of the ring shine. I think that with no diamonds, it’s super comftorable to wear. Excited to see what you end up choosing!=)2

Nothing to add re: Halos...but I was thinking your little aqua might look super beautiful with two step cut sides to make it a three stone if you think that a halo is too much....and I wanted to say that your aqua is a lovely color!

The current setting IS lovely and I can see why you went with it. But (please don't be offended...) I think current setting is a bit overwhelming for the stone...I like it as is...but it doesn't feel like the right setting for THIS stone...if you know what I mean.

Yes I do! I love the clean and polished feel with the burst of blue. Love the fresh look. Do you have handshots?
But it is all about you being super happy with the ring as a whole.

What a beautiful ring! It’s good to hear it’s a super comfortable ring to wear because I want supercomfy. I’m excited to see what I come up with too. :P2 Thanks!

I’ve thought about side stones because I love that look, but I was thinking (maybe in error) that a halo would protect the aqua a bit better.

I am most definitely not offended! I like hearing people’s opinions. It often helps me understand my own opinions. Sometimes I feel the delicate aqua is wearing a suit of armor. I do like it, but could I like it even more in a different setting? I’ve mulled this over for several years, yet I keep wearing it as is.

I love the stone and the blue is remarkable, but the ring I’ve always been unsure about even though I wear it often. This ring was something I asked for without knowing anything about settings or design. The original was a full bezel. I just asked for sides to be cut out to let in more light.

I’ll take hand shots tomorrow! =)2

Maybe we're seeing the same thing suit of armor is a GREAT description for what I see when I look at it....theres a beautiful little sparkly hidden behind an armor! I would definitely wear it as well as it is a very different setting than what we often see. I suggested the three stone because I think a white stone would really make the blue POP!

I think that your best bet if you're looking for that protection IS a halo or a bezel. Though if you're not sure how to set it yet...go to a jeweler, leaving the old wallet at home, bring your ring with you and try on some rings w. Step cut stones (whether CS or diamond) in halos, try the three stone on...and compare each type of ring with your current. The way it's set now is quite intriguing and with other rings next to it for comparison you might be able to get a better feel for what you like. And don't forget to bring us 100s of photos so we can let you know our thoughts!

Although another thought is: if you like your setting it might be a option to trimming it down so that the stone has more presence and the grey of the metal is less noticable....the metal also seems to add a lot of grey tones to this setting.

As an aside, I'm personally not a fan of haloing emerald cut stones...something about the little round melee diamonds take away from the crisp lines for me which is what I love about emeralds and step cuts in general... makes it bubbly and cushion like. I have no problems with haloed ovals, rounds and cushions it's really just step cut stones, I think.

I love the look of super blingy settings on others, but plain shank halos are my favorite to wear myself. I think they are more on the casual and understated side, which is what I like about the style. I also like high contrast, so the smooth metal against the diamond halo framing a colored stone is a very appealing look to my eye. I love the tiny halo in your inspiration photo and think it would, really make the color of your aqua pop! I have two plain shank halo rings. The color change sapphire, which is usually blue, but purple in the photo has .02 pt diamonds in the halo around a 6.5mm stone, the green tourmaline has .01 pt diamonds in the halo around a 7mm stone.

Love this! I really love this style. Yet your stone is a bit hidden, so I can understand your wish to reset. I would definitely keep this setting though and perhaps you can put a stone in it with a taller crown

I have a thing for air gap/line halos, however not for every stone.

DK :))

Thanks to everyone with your inputs and ideas! I think I have realized I see my aqua as a beautiful and delicate gem protected in a suit of armor. It’s that odd blend that bugs me, however, it is protected which is important to me for an aqua.

I think I’m just going to wear it as is for another year or so. After that I’ll reset it in a small halo if I still feel the tug that it needs something more delicate.

That yellow sapphire ring is perfect! I just saved it to my inspiration rings!!
